Still here.
Depression
I think that depression is something you feel in order to fill a void. What that void is, differs per person. Some might miss love, affection or validation while others miss purpose or goals in life. Even more specifically, some might miss the ability to have peace of mind or the ability to meditate.
Whatever it may be, I strongly believe that depression is a sort of chemical reaction or a defense mechanism in your brain that is kind screaming at you that there is something missing in your life. And yes some people might have it from early on and others might develop it later in life. The thing is that I believe that the best way to overcome it is to be self aware and to do that you need to learn to self reflect.
In order to self reflect you need other people. Because just imagine if you would put out thoughts and actions into the world and no one would react to them like you’re a ghost. You would never be able to grow as a person. We can only identify and improve our actions if it’s followed by reactions. Therefore we need human interaction in order to self reflect as well.
Human interaction is just very important in order to grow as a person and it will help you find what that void is. That’s why people always say that cliche that you need to talk to people or keep yourself busy with activities. I believe that this is the explanation why talking to people or interacting in other ways is so important. Once you become self aware and can identify your void, all that is left to do is find ways to fill it. Maybe not completely but enough to live a content life.
I understand that it’s not easy to fill any void but at least at this point you have gone through that horrible fase of not knowing what is wrong with you.

As usual.
Change, The feeling that we have of an enduring organism. I meet you today and I see you. And then tomorrow i meet you again, and you look pretty much as you did yesterday, and so I consider you as the same person. But you aren’t, not really. When i watch a whirlpool in a stream. Here’s the stream moving along. But that whirlpool never never really holds any water. The water is all time rushing through it. And so in just precisely that way, every one of us is a whirlpool. In the tide of existence. And where every cell in our body, every molecule, every atom, is in constant flux. And nothing can be pinned down. From one point of view. Change is just too bad. Everything flows away. And there’s a kind of sadness in that. A kind of nostalgia. And maybe even a rage. Go not gently into that good night, but rage, rage, at the dying of the light. This is the nature of change. If you resist it, you have dhuka, you have frustration and suffering. But on the other hand, if you understand change, you don’t cling to it, and you let it flow. Then it’s no problem and it becomes positively beautiful. The fact that things are always running out, that things are always disappearing, has some hidden marvel in it. The Japanese have a word: yugen. Which has no english equivalent. Yugen is in a way digging change. You have the feeling of yugen when you see out in the distant water some ships hidden behind a far off island. You have the feeling of yugen when you watch wild geese and suddenly then get lost in the clouds. You have the feeling of yugen when you look across mount tamalpais and you have never been to the other side and you see the sky beyond. You don't go over there to look and see what is on the other side. That wouldn't be yugen. You let the other side be the other side. And it evokes something in your imagination. You don't attempt to define it. To pin it down. So in the same way the coming and going of things in the world is marvelous. They go, where do they go? Don’t answer, because that would spoil the mystery. They vanish into the mystery. But if you pursue them, you destroy yugen.
Alan Watts
Love is an untamed force. When we try to control it, it destroys us. When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us. When we try to understand it, it leaves us feeling lost and confused.
Paulo Coelho (via words-of-emotion)
