i flew out of newark this afternoon and after we had pulled away from the gate the pilot got on the speaker and said “so there’s a soccer game on today.” i very foolishly thought that we were going to get in-flight updates about the game, but instead he told us that there was going to be a flyby at the start of the game and so all other flights were grounded for half an hour. gotta love the beautiful game or whatever
