Broken Faith by Brandy Nacole

I read books very quickly so when I sat down to read Broken Faith I was surprised to realize that I was finished in a matter of a couple of hours. The characters in this novel are so engaging that you genuinely feel their emotions. I absolutely loved Sabrina. Her attitude and survival instinct combined with her concern for Kayson is so sweet and amusing. The details are so realistic that I could actually imagine Sabrina's stance and facial expressions. Kayson and Sabrina's relationship is so refreshing because it's not the usual: "let's fall in love as soon as we meet each other." I was also fascinated with their respective backstories and how they ended up the way they did. Emma slightly annoyed me at first because I was concerned about what her involvement would mean for Kayson and Sabrina. I had similar emotions as Sabrina with some of the things Emma was thinking and doing. However I am glad she was there to help in the end. The angel aspect of the novel was very well done and made sense (in the paranormal realm of course.) I genuinely felt sorry for Kayson and am glad he found what he was looking for (possible spoiler so I won't say what). Overall, Broken Faith was a pleasant surprise of a novel and I sincerely hope there is a sequel coming quickly.

The Picture of Dorian Gray

For me, The Picture of Dorian Gray is about a man's downward spiral into ruin. Dorian Gray is young and beautiful, something he is told over and over by the painter, Basil and Lord Henry. The two men so idolize Dorian that Basil places him on an almost unreachable pedestal by painting his portrait. This painting eventually becomes Dorian's undoing. 

I really enjoyed this novel. I felt like each character was well-developed and the plot moved smoothly. I think this book is a classic because there are opposing views that can be taken of Dorian's actions and the novel itself. Personally I did not find Dorian's actions that wrong because I saw him as more of an impressionable young man who is manipulated and influenced by men who flatter him and make him feel important and above everyone else. 

While this book was assigned for me I did enjoy it and would read it again freely. I would also recommend this to anyone.

Wuthering Heights

This was my first time reading Wuthering Heights and it was assigned to me for summer reading for my AP English class. While I did struggle through this book because it took me a while to get into it, it wasn't a bad book. I think this is one of those classic novels that you are just going to have to read again because reading it once for school makes it feel like an assignment and you can not enjoy it. 

The book wasn't that bad for me it's just that I did not like any of the characters except Hareton and he had the smallest part in the entire novel. The two main characters, Heathcliff and Catherine came across as terrible people who both only cared about themselves. The two play together as children but then are separated when Catherine goes off to live with the Lintons and reappears as a young lady rather than the rambunctious child she was. Heathcliff never gets over the feeling of abandonment and becomes obsessed with her. This leads to "events" (I don't want to spoil the entire novel) and makes him seem like a terrible, obsessive monster who will do anything to get what he wants even though it is impossible. I did come to like young Catherine towards the end as I did not like her when she was a spoiled brat. Linton just annoyed me. There is no way around it, he was annoying, selfish, rude, and pathetic. I agree with Hareton that if he wasn't more of a "lass than a lad I would strike you" or something like that, probably not the exact quote :) The bottom line is that I feel like this is a classic novel that has to be read more than once to fully appreciate it. This being the first read, I didn't love it but it has promise.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer

Ok so I first read this book a few years ago, right after I finished Breaking Dawn. At the time the Twilight series ruled my brain and I just wanted to read another novel like it. I figured that since it was written by the same author it would be similar. However when I started reading, I couldn't make it past, maybe chapter 8, because it was nothing like Twilight. For some reason I never picked up the book again until about a year ago. When I read this time, it was amazing, I loved every single character and the plot seemed incredible. Seeing as how it is Stephanie Meyer, there is a "sort of" love triangle; however, I liked this one soooooo much better than Twilight. It made more sense and I loved both guys but it was more of wanting everyone to be happy, instead of choosing between two guys. I know a lot of people who would not read the Host because of the Twilight series and the movies, but the Host was soooo much better and I sincerely hope the movie turns out better than Twilight

Ensuing Darkness by Alexis Cain

I absolutely loved Ensuing Darkness. The plot was interesting, the characters well-developed, and they had me laughing and crying along with me. Kota, to me, was exactly as a heroine should be strong, independent, and likable. Connelly seemed like a well-developed and not stereotypical male lead. He wasn't egotistical and he tried to protect Kota without being controlling. Their relationship was more "believable." They didn't need to be together every second of the day like some other books will have their couples do. The siblings were all amusing, I loved them all and would not be upset to see books going into more details about them *****HINT HINT****. The secondary relationship of Ivan and Sue was sooo sweet and the "event" (don't want to spoil anything) that happend to Sue made my heart break for her. Allister and Vincent made me laugh out loud. As far as the action goes, it was well detailed and was a nice balance to the romance. It was interesting the way Alexis Cain approached the vampire trend going on right now. I think she definitely has a new and enjoyable way of portraying her vampires. I give this book 4 and a half stars because although the book clearly leaves off for a sequel, I feel like this could have been done without just feeling like you're missing a chapter.

A complete side note because I have no idea if this was just the format on my kindle but the  lines were spaced out oddly and the title and author's name appeared throughout the book randomly for example,

           "only to find that class had apparently

            Ensuing Darkness

            already started."

But I could ignore this problem as I began more engrossed in the novel. :)
