i grow from a giant tree
from a giant stalk
my grandmother's womb cradled me
before my mother
could walk or talk.
my roots cut through the mountains
and water
pours from their veins
the old pools settle into cities
with dried up lakes.
i called god and osiris answers
and i remember all gods are one
as much as they are divine
i am soil
where roots
and mothers
and daughters
seed and birth from.
my lifeline is an artifact
that grows from love's shade
so i wear my mother's face
because for a moment, my father
loved my mother so much
that he could not look away.
i am wings that make the wind fiercer
for the strength my flight has
that i could exude my power
from the simplicity, not talon
of being who i am.
i am the fish before it ever
is sacrificed
by the seaman's sharpened blade
i am tail wriggling faster
cool waters, clear and clean.
i am molecules of light transmuted
into colours spread across the sky
i am rainbows painted in nature
raised in flags and worn proudly in smiles.
i am everything that connected me to
transforming living instead of merely
hoping to survive.
i am every bit of love that made me
and conspired to write my name into the universe
from the first man and woman
to fell in love
to each day i can wake up
next to my wife.
i am all the love i am capable of
and the love that lives in stories that
could never be
to the ones my children
will someday write.
i am the soil i will go back to
when i season the earth in my decay
i am what blooms after a harsh winter
i am the rebirth that comes each spring.
