Berlin, Germany, Deutschland
My sister and I planned a two week trip that would take us from Germany to Italy, Nice and back to Paris. Germany was one of my top places to visit, so we came here because I really wanted to. I wanted to see what it was like in Berlin. I was interested in Munich, but I didn鈥檛 have much time to explore Germany, so I went with Berlin, of course. I had heard that Berlin was amazing and whatnot, so I thought I should check out the life out there, as well as the history. Unfortunately, Berlin was just a weekend trip, but it was very interesting. I felt as though I needed to stay longer to really grasp what it was that people loved so much about Berlin. My sister didn鈥檛 like it because she didn鈥檛 feel safe, but I felt as though you need to live in Berlin for a few weeks to see what its really like. I think there is something about it. I wanted to figure it out, but who knows, maybe in the future, if I move there haha. Joking. I鈥檓 not sure if I would choose to live in Berlin over many other amazing places I鈥檝e visited. There were many things I liked though. I liked how cheap Berlin was. The food was always cheap and good. They had breakfast food聽! That鈥檚 pretty hard to find in Paris. I liked how it had many cafes, restaurants, and interesting bars. It had sort of an underground feel to the bars. As if you needed an invitation to go in or something. Berlin was also very green. Everywhere you walk there鈥檚 a park. They had a river and parks everywhere. It was nice聽! I love green areas.
I guess the downside about it being so green was that at night, it was super dark. The streets weren鈥檛 very illuminated and you would see random people walking in the distance. Oh聽! People are also pretty friendly, but we didn鈥檛 understand a word of german, so we couldn鈥檛 understand what they would say to us. Many people speak english though, so that wasn鈥檛 a problem.
On our second day in Berlin, we planned out to see a few museums and things we wanted to try (food-wise). We went to see the remaining of the Berlin Wall, the Bradenburg Gate, then the Memorial of the Murdered Jews. The museum was very sad, but I stuck through it.
聽 After this museum, we went to the Topography of Terror, which was very informational as well. It was bigger than we thought, so we didn鈥檛 get a chance to finish even half of it because we were starving. We knew we didn鈥檛 want to get lost in Berlin during the night and it was already the evening, so we headed out for something to eat. The plan was to try currywurst, a kebab, then head to Gorlitzer park. When we got to the place where we were going to get currywurst, we saw a HUGE line for this kebab place called 芦聽Mustafa聽禄. I didn鈥檛 even really think about how long we鈥檇 be waiting in line, but I told my sister to make line so we can try it. I got in line for the currywurst, headed to where my sister was in line, yet we still waited around an hour to order from that place聽! Luckily, they had a vegetarian option because I was becoming impatient and the thought of having to go elsewhere to get food, after waiting for hours, was not cool聽! I even thought that it might not be good, but it was AMAZING聽! No kebab place will ever be able to replace this one, especially cause they had vegetarian聽! Some of the other food we tried, seemed to have curry in it. Curry must be huge in Berlin. They even have a museum for currywurst. It鈥檚 good though.
After eating we headed to the park. Maybe THIS was a bad choice, but I always think that nothing bad could happen. While we were walking by the park, there were many dudes trying to sell us drugs, or saying things in german (most likely something that had to do with drugs). We had to walk through the park though because I wanted to see the east side of the Berlin wall. So we found a path where there were many people walking. It looked safe and the end of the park was visible so we walked through it. As always, my sister was scared, but I just ignored everyone around. They just wanna sell drugs聽! Right聽? I thought it was fine to just ignore and keep walking, so we did that. We survived. That part of Berlin was pretty interesting to me because there were some nice looking cafes and restaurants. We saw the berlin wall and the bridge.
We called it a night since we had to go to Florence the next day. Berlin is a very interesting city. There鈥檚 a lot of street art all throughout the city, people of all ages hanging out, and it was very diverse. I would definitely come back to stay for a longer time. I know there鈥檚 more to Berlin to discover and it鈥檇 be cool to learn some german as well.
