Accept the fact that you will grow apart from people you’ve had significant relationships with. Understand when someone no longer positively affects your life. Let them go. Don’t hinder your growth.
“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.”
-Malcolm X (1962)
Misogynoir is a term I use quite a bit because it’s apparent so much in our lives. The factors described above are factual but the hate also comes from the behaviours we exhibit due to constantly experiencing misogynoir (e.g. safeguarding black culture, preferring our own cultural spaces & men) A lot of black girls are resented socially because of this as everyone wants access to our culture and in no way do we engage with other men the way other groups of women engage with black men. I think when you don’t explain these things ppl walk around with the idea that as BW we are obsessed with being “victims” but of course they don’t truly walk a day in our shoes. We are rarely seen as multifaceted human beings by society and I think this is why we prefer our own company.
