“What do you do when you try and fail those you care for most?” He asked.

The skeleton’s comment about not worrying was quickly followed up with a very alarming, very worrying question. 

“Sometimes it is,” He agreed, thinking back to the beginning of his mantle, “And sometimes good guys make bad choices---As long as they can admit to them and accept the consequences, then I don’t think there’s anything wrong.” 

Responsibility.  Unfortunately that came with accepting that some things couldn’t be fixed. 

“I guess. . . You try to live your life being the person they knew you were capable of being. Accepting that you failed someone is fine, but dwelling on how you could have done things differently doesn’t help anyone.”

“At least you tried,” He added, a half-smile surfacing, “Some of us don’t try until it’s too late.”

Giving an affirmative hand gesture, he added, “Totally. Just tell me where to.” 

Unless teleporting was involved.

Peter doesn’t take the description as lackluster, the hero inclined to trust his newfound friend’s words. 

“That. . sounds like a foreign language to me, but I’ll keep it in mind,” He replied, already attempting to come up with a crude way to remember the meaning of the acronym. 

“Which way to Bobery then?” He added, watching the stranger in the hall.

*a seemingly ordinary day in NY… of course, till some kind of bizarre, Dark Rift opened up, spitting a Cat-Person in a coat, hat, & scarf out upon a Rooftop, before vanishing whence it came. that kind of thing usually distracts from regularly scheduled web-swinging* *the cat-Person is face down on the roof, conscious, but dead-tired*

Swinging aimlessly became swinging to a harsh halt, the masked hero making a less-than graceful landing. It wasn’t every day he watched looming rifts spit out estranged beings, and he reaction showed this, the hero swerving towards the rooftop. 

A hat(?) that resembled cat ears came into his line of view first, the rest of the stranger concealed inconspicuously by a cloak and scarf.

“H-Hey!” He yelled, craning his neck to get a better view, “Did your creepy black void make a wrong pit stop?” 

He shouted these remarks, unaware if the stranger was conscious or not, and he quickly, upon realizing this, ran towards them. 

Leaning down, the hero falling into his default crouching position, he moved his hand to grab one of the cat ears, “Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man reporting in,”

A tilt of his head, peering more closely at the individual, “Status check, are you alright?”

He swiveled on the balls of his feet, an exaggerated expression eliciting his entire response, 

“Die? Are. . Are you sure?” 

Rather than question her reasonings for uttering such a strange comment, the spider focused on the irrelevant details of the statement. 

“Not to become totally pious, but I think there’s a better solution. Like, living off the grid and being raised by wolves.” 

Definitely a pious alternative.

“Did they tell you anything cool about the future?” He questioned, refraining from making super bowl and lottery ticket jokes, something telling him they wouldn’t be well received. 

He flinched a bit at the next reply, before laughing, “I don’t blame you. Where’s Mt. Paozu? Never heard of it.”

“These are traditional garbs, boy. Your insolence will be pu-” The ancient being was suddenly unable to speak, control over the body that was not her own loosening as the host came back to the surface.

“I’m uh…I’m so sorry about that.”

For the first time in weeks, it was June who spoke.

“Interesting way of putting it,” His reply came quick, only a beat off from interrupting the woman’s own words. 

Her facial change wasn’t lost on him, quickly realizing that jokes weren’t the right approach for this encounter, though he wasn’t given time to react to it. The woman seemingly change, her demeanor and voice becoming more relaxed, less constricting. 

“You, um, just now,” He started, gesturing his hands back and forth, the chatterbox suddenly stomped, “What--What was that?”
