help me with the crossword in the morning
my first ever fic if it sucks im sorry lol! it was meant to be a blurb and turned more into a short one shot i hope you like it :)
a soft morning in the Baker-Dacus household 🤍
Julien wakes up early never a good sleeper, she looks up at the body she’s gently wrapped around to see her Lucy sleeping so peacefully.
She slowly slips out from Lucy’s grasp making sure to pull the blankets back up to keep her nice and warm in their bed before slipping into her running gear, getting ready and sneaking out their bedroom door.
The second she’s out the door beans quickly greets Julien so excited to see her and so excited to go outside running across the house to wait by the door as Julien walks to open it for her.
She has some water and grabs a hat and Beans’ leash as the black and white dog comes back inside.
Clipping Beans’ leash onto her harness and putting in her headphones Julien slips out the front door for her run.
Around 20 minutes later Lucy begins to stir feeling the bed empty next to her she moves her head to Julien’s pillow inhaling the scent of her fiancé’s shampoo and slowly opening her eyes.
She slowly sits up and picks up the book she started yesterday taking her time to bask in the soft morning sun that shines through their windows.
She only gets about 3 more chapters into the book when she hears the front door open and paws scampering up the stairs as Beans launches herself onto their bed.
“Hi beanie baby did you have a good run with jb?”
As she gives the dog nice scratchies while she tries to lick Lucy’s face until she hears.
“You excited to see mommy huh beanie?”
Lucy’s eyes flick to the doorframe Juliens leaning on face lighting up at her fiancé’s voice.
Julien says letting her accent slip just a tiny bit as she walks towards Lucy holding a newspaper and a tray with two takeout cups, she learns down and softly kisses Lucy as they both smile into the kiss.
Lucy whispers not quite removing her mouth from Julien’s as she kisses her shorter partner again.
“Got you some tea and the paper so we can do the crossword if you want? How’d you sleep? You looked so peaceful when I woke up”
Julien says as she moves to put her coffee and Lucy’s tea and paper on the night stand.
“Thank you baby. I slept well, I always do with you.”
Julien leans back in for one more kiss as she says,
“I’m gonna have a quick shower, get a head start on the crossword.”
“Okay, love you” Lucy says, as Julien walks into the bathroom.
With Beans curled up at her side and tea on her bedside table Lucy starts the crossword while she hears Julien humming in the shower, possibly an Ethel Cain song she thinks as she makes a mental note to ask her later.
By the time Julien walks out of the bathroom with a towel around her waist, completely distracting Lucy from her task, she’s about halfway through the crossword questions with a few skipped ones here and there.
Julien throws on some boxers before sliding under the covers next to Lucy and Beans again with her iced coffee, knowing not to even try putting a shirt on and disturb her fiancé’s blatant staring.
They fall into their usual rhythm, Lucy reads out the questions she skipped to Julien as they figure them out together until they’ve finished the whole puzzle about half an hour later as Julien leans against Lucy’s shoulder and they smile softly at each other.
Julien’s smile widens as she asks,
“What do you feel like for breakfast?”
And Lucy can’t help but lean down and kiss her again, thinking how did she get this lucky.
