A bull as a symbol of wealth is so ubiquitous in ancient Greece, but it doesn't really scan so well in our modern, urbanized world. Thus I propose a new version of the Minotaur myth where Pasiphaë fucks a Mercedes Benz.
I hadn't really considered what the monstrous hybrid of a human and a luxury motor vehicle would actually look like until you made me imagine Lightning McQueen revving his way through the labyrinth, tires slick with the blood of sacrificed youths.

Monstrous Regiment - The Duchess is Watching You
It was a poor woodcut, hand-coloured mostly in blue and red. It was of a plain, middle-aged woman whose sagging chin and slightly bulging eyes gave the cynical the feeling that someone had put a large fish in a dress, but the artist had managed to capture something extra in that strange, blank expression. Some pictures had eyes that followed you around the room; this one looked right through you. It was a face you found in every home.
An irrelevant background side note: I did these illustrations in one of these wooden houses in an isolated village deep in the Carpatian Mountains (Slovakia). It's quite a retrograde and religious place, and you can find these..woodworks, icons and eerily looking paintings of saints in every house in every room...so you can imagine it did have quite the vibe for illustrating some parts from the book in this place as I brought the book with me.
Today's bug thing is this turquoise, mother of pearl, jet, and coral butterfly brooch! Created by indigenous artist Allison Dishta from the Zuni tribe.

I do think it's kind of funny how john green wrote a book about tuberculosis that brought a lot of renewed attention to the subject and he's since become the darling of the tb world, speaks at tb conferences, my dad and every other tb researcher I know is absolutely smitten with him, and they'll be like "we love this guy! have you heard of him??" and I have to be like well yes, I have. for other reasons
