I haven’t listened to praise music since.

I can’t remember.

God has felt there and not there. he is near

but feels so far. why did I stop? i haven’t opened up my Bible. I go day by day without praying.

without praising. God is there. but where am i? what is holding me back from drawing near to God?

if things would have gone differently,

you and I would still be best friends. but things did not go differently.

they were exactly as they are.

and it’s strange to watch you celebrate your birthday from the outside

when I used to be right next to you.

I think that love

the kind that you give from up close or far away,

is still the same thing. it still lives in the same place in my heart. so, it is strange, and it is beautiful. it is sad,

and it makes me happy.

I always return to writing when there is loss.

loss of dreams.

loss of selfishness.

loss of love. loss of friendship. there’s something cathartic about writing to no one

but myself

but maybe someone out there connects with these feelings.

these feelings that are so uncomfortable

I hate sitting in them.

because in those moments, I feel so alone. I feel.

and sitting in these feelings are just so damn uncomfortable.

why, my soul.

my soul is disquieted within me.

i feel.

it‘s almost too loud to bear.

hope in God.

praise him louder.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Be my Holy people

God says, “You shall be consecrated to me.” God is kind, compassionate, just, right, and holy. His ways are good. He says, “Be holy because I am holy.” In my flesh, I am mean, insensitive, always believe *I* am right, and place my own good above that of my neighbor. Of my husband. Of others. Life is more convenient when it’s just me. But God has placed me in community. God has given me my husband and He calls me to lay down my life. To seek the interests of others. To consider others more important than myself. His ways are not my ways, but He calls me to reflect Him in His holiness, in His justice, in His love. Just As He laid down His life for me.  

Lord, help me to be holy as you are holy. To seek your justice. To seek the good of the people you have placed in my life, in my household. May I live my everyday to your glory.

It is not enough

to say:

I love God, but I do not love my neighbor. St. John says you are a liar if you say you love God and you don't love your neighbor. How can you love God whom you do not see, if you do not love your neighbor whom you see, whom you touch, with whom you live. And so this is very important for us to realize that love, to be true, has to hurt. 

It hurt Jesus to love us, it hurt him. And to make sure we remember his great love he made himself the bread of life to satisfy our hunger for his love. Our hunger for God, because we have been created for that love. We have been created in his image. We have been created to love and be loved, and then he has become man to make it possible for us to love as he loved us. 

He makes himself the hungry one - the naked one - the homeless one - the sick one - the one in prison - the lonely one - the unwanted one - and he says: You did it to me. Hungry for our love, and this is the hunger of our poor people. This is the hunger that you and I must find, it may be in our own home.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

Serenity now
