Hullo! So a fair warning: Below will be a drabble I have written up as an example of my writing for people to see if they want commissions. This story belongs to me personally, having written it myself. I do not want my work posted anywhere but here by me. Reblogging is okay, but posting without crediting or taking offsite is not. I do not want my work taken without my consent, there is a reason copyright laws exist. I will not tolerate my work being used without my permission.
Now without further ado, I present:
-------------------------------
The empty cabin had an energetic silence… Daring intruders to come in and find the thing that called to wanderers looking for rest. Weary of travels and their horses worn from long trails. The cabin even saw a suspicious man with a camel, carrying bags full of supplies that would have caused havoc in town. Would have. But that mysterious cargo that would have taken lives and the suspicious man were lured in and the steed having wandered off to who knows where.
Typically, a particular succubus would’ve left the cabin be. However the empty place had lured in his possible prey twice now. Twice now Maverick had lost his food, and twice now it seemed to mock him as the humans he had stalked walked into the cabin while he was stuck elsewhere leaving only their tantalizing smell behind. It pissed him off to no end. So, here he was after the sun had fallen hours earlier to be sure no one saw the fall of his human shell.
Wings draped around his shoulder like a shawl and a long tail swaying above stones that made a path to the cabin. Its roof having fallen in on one side, but still seemingly usable to hide in over night and a rotting wood fence on the other side holding a horse bridle as a trophy. The mountain that slowly rose up from what may have been a pretty home and piece of land seemed nervous for such a tall being and the wind that came down was trying to push him away. But even so, the succubus was done having his prey stolen and would not allow it to go on any longer. That wretch Helen already starved him once, he would not allow anyone or anything else to do him wrong.
The door gave no struggle, and the frustration that was powered by a possessive need for food made the cabin shudder. Or, atleast, that’s what Maverick thought as the wind flowed through holes and under the fallen roof making an odd sound.
“If I was still a child, I would be startled. Once you understand how wind likes to play with your mind it grows old. But you seem to like playing things over and over even if the joke becomes overdone and falls flat.” Maverick spoke aloud, hissing as black eyes scanned darkness. He had a lantern on his hip from Marlene as the elderly lady wanted to be sure her recent helper could see during his nightly wandering. It was a sweet gesture, and Maverick kept it with him even if it was unneeded solely for the intent she had when giving it to him.
Even his type of creature could respect a gift, even if they fed off the worst humans. The cabin quickly gave a response, breaking Maverick from his line of thought as a door slowly began to open. It was still yet moving in a smooth manner with no sound of rusting hinges. This cabin had a resident it seemed, but Maverick sensed no ghost. But his nose had caught a scent, and his tongue ‘tasted’ that same scent and the chemicals making it. Carefully, Maverick started looking for an alternate way around the door as there was no way he would enter something that ominous. It screamed to his mind like a parade of wisp. The smell had led Maverick to a large trunk with faded coloring.
He didn’t bother trying to figure out what the color was as he checked the sides and stared at a keyhole that seemed ruined now. Maverick pulled out a revolver he claimed ownership of years prior from a wonderful altercation started between one of his dinners and the father of that dinner’s victim. Needless to say one of them didn’t make it and one paid him back. Pointing the gun at the chest he opened it with inhuman speed. What lay inside made Maverick wish he had brought one of Marlene’s hidden rifles.
“Oh what in the hen nabbing…” Maverick just stared, gun still aimed but a little confused while the culprit stared back with big, bulging eyes.
The culprit had large eyes that made up most of its head, the head having no mouth or nose, and a thin frame held under its own hands, These hands having long, dirty nails made to tear prey apart. Honestly? Maverick had no idea what it was and this thing seemed not to know what to do with him either as the staring contest went on. Maverick had come here with a decision to chase off or kill whatever was stealing his food, not wanting to share with anyone since his kind only had specific types of feelings and motivations they could eat. The succubus wouldn’t be the one leaving the town a little less than half a day’s travel from here. Growling in a way that established his thoughts, Maverick spoke. “I want you gone, take your trophies and leave or I’ll take them from you.” Maverick’s finger was on the trigger, a little force and it’d shoot. “So make it quick and easy.” It sounded impatient, because he was.
Whatever this thing was made a sound that was similar to a hornet’s nest. It seemed to speak as the buzz filled Maverick’s ears. His head began to hurt as it tried to bargain.
“Please, I am still weak. Let me have just a few more and I will move on.”
Maverick’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve been hunting for around two months now. That should be plenty.” His fangs were hidden by the pitch black shroud of the cabin, the moon being unable to filter in. But the creature seemed to see them when Maverick’s lick curled up. “So you need to go on and git’.” But it didn’t move, trying again.
“I can’t. My body is still gathering the energy necessary. Please, I just need a few more. Maybe six. What humans do you prefer? I’ll leave them be-”
“How can I trust your word? You have nothing to show for your words and I don't have patience to be tested with blind trust.” He interrupted, growing more and more annoyed as time went on. “I’ve missed two fucking meals because of you. What do you have to offer for me to just allow you six humans?” It also didn’t help that Maverick actually liked people.
“Please. I beg of you… I have only fed off what I assume to be travelers. If you let me stay I can even give you the information they share when they assume they're alone. Including the humans who carry the smell of the town you do.”
Really, he should have just shot the thing and left. But really, Maverick was much kinder than he liked to think and it pissed him off to no end. He lowered the gun, gaze burning with fury.
“Fine. I’ll come back in two nights. If you have nothing to offer I’ll chase you out. I don’t care if you are exhausted and die in the wilderness, you're done. Got it?”
The buzzing ceased, and it nodded. So the succubus turned to leave, hooved foot louder than when he entered. The beast left behind just stared, thoughtful as it closed the chest and awaited food.
