People always complain that they call a customer service number and then get left on hold.
What most folks won’t tell you is they just spent half an hour mentally, verbally, and emotionally abusing the powerless person trying their best to help them.
Often, it’s the customer’s own mistake that leads them to make the call.
Often, the customer interrupts before the rep can even finish speaking.
I’m just saying, as someone who works in customer service, if you go out of your way to berate, harass, belittle, and threaten me, yes, Karen/Ken, I’m going to leave you on hold until I either solve your problem or you hang up.
You have to love those moments when one of your coworkers completley screws up and then you get to be the one who cleans up their mess.
Customer: “Why was I not told this weeks ago?!”
What do you even want me to say?
Um.......because so and so was an idiot?
Because someone was new and didn’t know?
Because someone had a rough day and got confused?
Please don’t ask people in the customer relations/service industries these dumb rhetorical questions.

a while back I made a post along the lines of "every STEM major should have a required 'history of science' course that's just all about previously wrong and bad scientific theories like sperm all containing homunculi and spontaneous generation" and I got a lot of responses like "but STEM majors already have gen ed requirements!" and would not understand why I was specifically asking for a course that would teach people about why science is not infallible and does not exist in a vacuum and THIS IS EXACTLY WHY ACTUALLY
People should dunk on food banks more for giving people expired or nearly expired food actually I'm done being nice abt that. You won't let homeless people dumpster dive behind a fucking McDonalds but you'll make someone show their ID so they can get 5 cans of spagettios that went bad in 1947 lmfao hell world
The fact that fast food restaurants quite often throw away many times more food than a food bank would ever give out per community and that the corporate interests that run those restaurants will just straight up call the cops on someone rummaging through their trash for food is a good example of how fucked up capitalism is.
Especially when some of the food in the foodbank, as you said, is often lesser in quality than the dumpster leavings of those restaurants.
As someone who's had to scrape by with free food boxes, half the shit in them is either expired or about to expire, and very little of it ever goes together into a single complete meal. People will tell you to "just go to the food bank" but they never have an answer for, "what the fuck am I supposed to cook for dinner using half a bag of rotten apples and a sack of cheap rice?"
And boy do they love giving you useless shit like ten pounds of fucking party cheese. Which legit has happened to my family. We got through one before throwing them out
Which like, getting saddled with disposing of bad foods when you are struggling to feed yourself and loved ones is the most demoralizing thing imaginable
I routinely got moldy food from the food pantry I've frequented most because they didn't refrigerate and because those items were past their sell bys when they got them.
I mean I'm still grateful I didn't literally starve because of them but it's really something to walk two miles in the snow at 7am and stand in line for an hour and show ID and proof of income and proof you pay rent (cuz fuck unhoused people yk) only to finally get home and open the little Caesars pizza you got off a stack on the floor and aren't allowed to open on the premises and discover it's not only stale this time but covered in mold.
That was before the pandemic and before the economy wide price gouging began btw. It's much worse now in many places, people get turned away a lot more.
Your local community could probably use volunteer time and donations now more than ever, if you're able to offer either.
