@pastbrought spoke: ❛ tell me that you don’t want this - lie to yourself. ❜ (ares @ persephone) ( ❛❛ // 𝚂𝙷𝙸𝙿𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝚃𝚁𝙾𝙿𝙴 𝚂𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙴𝚂 :// 𝙵𝙾𝚁𝙱𝙸𝙳𝙳𝙴𝙽 𝙻𝙾𝚅𝙴. / / accepting )
‘ ARES… ’ his name is more plea than anything, a half-hearted attempt avoid the subject all together. light eyed gaze cannot meet his as she lays her hands against his chest, intent to push him away…but unable to force herself to actually do it. she does– the fates know she does want this. want him. no matter how impossible or foolish it might be. there is no might, she knows it is foolish, her mother would never allow it, not the same woman who had told her a thousand times that if she had allowed her daughter to wed her husband would tire of her in a year’s time.
‘ we both know i am a terrible liar. ’ it is foolish and if it makes her a fool then she will gladly be one for as long as she can. her hands cup his cheeks as she meets his gaze, breath hitching in her throat, as if her mind has tried one last effort to keep her from making a mistake. ( but it is no mistake ) ‘ of course i want this. ’ she loves him.
‘ i want you, but how can we continue like this? this– half life hidden from the world, wondering if or when we will ever see each other again? ’
He had gone looking for her as soon as he had finished discussing with Demeter. It did not end well, and he was desperate, desperate to see her, feel her touch. Her mother had rejected his request for her hand in marriage, and he understood all to well the reasons why. Yet, he was the god of war ; brutish, stubborn. He closed his eyes, cringing as she spoke. Hands grabbed onto hers, knowing she could easily push him away and he would let her if that’s what she wanted. But her reply was not the words he wanted to hear, yet at the same time they were everything he wanted, needed to hear.
❛ I have slaughtered thousands, most compare me to a monster, ❜ he spoke, his gaze hard on hers as he pulled her closer. ❛ Is that what you truly want ? To be bound to a monster, whose hands are soaked in blood as if it were a trophy to brag about ? ❜ To Hades with Demeter. He loved her, and there was little that could keep him from having her.
❛ We can’t, ❜ he admitted, pressing his lips against her forehead. Now that Demeter knew he had his eyes set on Persephone, it would be hard to come visit her. In fact, this may be the last time they’d be together. ❛ Come with me, ❜ he whispered, his voice pleading, urgent. ❛ Right now, come marry me. I have already asked your mother if I could, but of course she would not approve. I fear we will not be able to see each other after today if you do not come with me. ❜
