The legendary anxiety and stress brought about by planning a wedding has inspired many a reality TV show such as “Bridezillas” and “Say Yes to the Dress,” as well as enterprises such as Bridesmaid for Hire. Organizing the wedding of your dreams is a Herculean task for which a wedding planner (or a project management certificate, if you’re on your own) is almost always required in order to stay on schedule and budget and to coordinate smoothly with the countless suppliers, including the caterer, band and wedding gown and bridesmaid dress designer.

If you’re a bride-to-be who’s planning one of the most special days of your life but want to save time and money and reduce anxiety and stress in the process, Etsy may be the answer to your prayers. Founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, New York by Rob Kalin, Chris Maguire, Haim Schoppik and Jared Tarbell, Etsy is the online version of a cool craft-fair-slash-flea-market. Although it sells almost everything under the sun, it is known mainly for its handmade and vintage clothing, accessories and home items.

You don’t have to dig deep on the site to find wedding-related gems, such as a divine silk chiffon wedding gown from Leanimal by one of my favorite Project Runway winners, Leanne Marshall. And even though many of the items sold on the site are made and marketed with love by artisans and entrepreneurs, they are relatively affordable. For example, based on my picks, one wedding gown, three bridesmaid dresses, three flower girl dresses, three ring bearer out fits, 100 invitations and 100 favors would cost only between $2,000 and $4,500.
