this reddit post isgoing to make me cry literally let's bask in the sun
remember that pride is still a protest
I got the game and now I get to feed my miis cigarettes too. >:)
not even funny how true this is for me
Noelle is so obviously dealing with emotional neglect it’s insane
Her dad is in the hospital, her mom is cold and never around, she is apparently getting raised by her computer (as evidenced by Queen wanting to take care of her/keep her safe in Chapter 2), all while she is dealing with the death/disappearance of her sister, a time in a kid’s life where they need to have the presence of parents or caretakers or literally anyone to develop in a healthy way
SHE DOESNT EVEN HAVE A KEY TO HER HOUSE!!! SHE HAS TO WAIT OUTSIDE FOR HER MOM TO LET HER IN!!!
Me when im a child who is developing healthy ideas about my self worth and what love looks like
What we've learned about Noelle's family life as of chapter 4 is fascinating, not just because it explains everything that's happened with her so far but because it solidifies one of the central themes behind the whole game.
Noelle is alone. Her life on its face seems really desirable -- she's seemingly well-liked by everyone and lives in the lap of luxury -- but wealth and popularity, while they do make things easier, don't make a happy or healthy childhood. She goes home after school each day and it's just her, alone in a palace where everything is defined by the desires of someone who she's afraid to even speak to.
She has access to every material good she could possibly dream of, but emotional connection barely exists for her. Her sister has been missing, presumably, for years now; her father is in the hospital with an unspecified illness, and has been for long enough that the prospect of him going to church is a surprise; and her mother, the only one who still has the option to be there for her, is both literally and figuratively the coldest person in town. She might be liked at school and have people there who care about her, but the two characters who seem to be her closest friends (Kris aside), Catti and Berdly, are completely unaware that Noelle has a crush on Susie. Is she really that close to anyone?
...And that's exactly why Weird Route is possible. Putting aside the metanarrative about Noelle having a connection to glitches and secret routes in video games: it's possible for the events of the Weird Route to happen precisely because Noelle is used to being treated that way. She's used to bowing her head and doing as she's told by a cold, domineering figure who barely shows care for her; we see that clearly as soon as Carol comes home. Noelle has no doubt seen what happens when she (or her sister) try to resist someone exerting authority over her, and she's no doubt been told time and time again that all the restriction and distance are for her protection, so she has no way to push back when "Kris" suddenly takes on the role of authority figure. Even when things get really bad, Noelle can't fight it; she copes with seemingly murdering her friend by insisting to herself that none of it really happened.
Noelle is a girl who's never wanted for anything material but is clearly lacking on an emotional/psychological front. She doesn't have any strong defenses against mistreatment because the worst mistreatment she faces comes from the same person responsible for her life being so comfortable. Weird Route is about recognizing that this makes her a perfect target for grooming and abuse.

My four key digital circus predictions, before I actually see it in theaters tomorrow:
The characters do not leave the circus. Instead they “make it real” by caring about each other as real people, and conjuring their own art and adventures.
Teethguy returns and gets a silly little Steven universe redemption arc where he abandons the purpose he was created for & joins the human’s gang as simply just another one of the guys. It’s a parallel to Gumigoo in episode 2.
Jax crashout.
Jax’s pronouns will either be she/her or was/were [rooting for she/her.]
Since I'm therapist-posting recently:
Legitimately self-compassion is the biggest mental health life hack of all time. I'm NOT talking about self-esteem. You do NOT have to like yourself one bit. You don't have to believe that you're a good person who deserves good things. You just have to believe that you're a person who deserves the things all people deserve.
You can't get from "I'm the Worst" to "I'm a worthy and lovable person" without passing through "I'm just a regular fuckup like everybody else."
Try it on. If you're really addicted to being mean to yourself, you can start by framing it as I'm Not Special. Embrace being a regular fuckup like everybody else.
tumblr is like an abandoned space station & you all are the thing in the vents
not me though. im girl with tanktop
[scrolling through a fandom tag] wrong. wrong. incomprehensibly wrong. wrong but harmless. nice style and color palette but I don't care about that ship. mildly entertaining liveblog update. they whitewashed my girl :( . good joke, reblog. wro--well that's my mutual so I will politely look away. fifteen posts in a row by an innocent rp blog that I don't have the heart to block. take I agree with but op was annoying about it. chapter twenty-eight of a longfic wip. !! GOOD POST !!, instafollowed. bot. technically correctly tagged but uses this acronym for something completely different. museum worthy art piece by a sixteen-year-old from the philippines. wrong. wrong but in a new and exciting way that provokes thought.

I’m a big fan of reenactment archaeology. I think there’s a lot to be said for recreating a scenario to better understand decisions made in generations past. Usually there’s an inherent logic to them.
Which is to say, that now that I have a baby of my own, I understand so much better the common cultural practice in which unmarried women wear their hair loose and uncovered, while married women have their hair covered and/or bound back.
I doubt it was just for modesty, oh no. No, my friends, I see now that the reason for this common practice of mothers binding back their hair is because there is nothing, I mean nothing, a baby love more than YANKING EVERY STRAND OF HAIR THAT COMES WITHIN GRABBING DISTANCE OF THEIR STICKY, SWEATY, AND IMPOSSIBLY STRONG LITTLE HANDS.
