The battlefield was still smoking.
The rubble and bloodstains left by the explosion created a somber scene.
Medic lay on the ground, his right hand empty, feeling as if a part of himself was missing.
His teammates pressed on his wound, hastily stopping the bleeding, shouting not to move.
He looked down at the emptiness, but no scream came from his heart.
Just… blankness.
It wasn't pain, but shock—shock that he couldn't do anything for his fallen teammate.
His left hand frantically reached for his medical bag, only to find the zipper wouldn't open; everything familiar was disrupted because of his right hand.
The blow to his heart was deeper than the explosion itself.
At that moment, for the first time, he truly felt his place in the team—
A person seen as a burden.
A few days later, the Engineer handed him a prosthetic arm.
The metal was cold, bearing the marks of welding and machining; it wasn't perfect.
The Engineer didn't offer any words of comfort, only saying calmly:
"It's not pretty. But it'll work."
Medic stared at the prosthetic arm, silent. My left hand trembled slightly.
Not from fear, but from some kind of unstable excitement.
A thought flashed through my mind: If this hand could be steadyer, faster, and stronger, would I still need to rely on my fragile human body?
