100 DAYS OF YURI: Day 88 - Kindred Spirits on the Roof
Kindred Spirits on the Roof is an adult Yuri visual novel by Liar-soft. Toomi Yuna is a timid girl living a quiet school life at Kokonotsuboshi Girls’ Academy of Commerce until one day she meets two spirits on the roof. These spirits, Sachi Enoki and Megumi Nagatani are long dead lovers, and Yuna is the only one who can see them. Realizing this, they enlist Yuna’s aid to help them pass on by experiencing their first time together and helping the girls around the school confess their love for each other. Thus Yuna sets out on an epic quest to create a Yuritopia!
The visual novel is mostly linear and explores several couples, all of whom have side stories and extra scenes that can be viewed at the player’s discretion via the in-game calendar. The game is partially voice acted, but the Full Chorus DLC adds full voice acting and additional benefits.
While the game is for adults and contains explicit sexual content, I do not consider it to be pornographic but rather an honest and thoughtful exploration of sexuality and relationships. The characters and pairings are engaging, well written, and adorable. My personal favorites are Hina and Yuna, but every couple feels unique, and players will love them! The amount of content is staggering and well worth the game’s price point.
The game is licensed by MangaGamer and can be purchased from their store or Steam in English. Additionally, four drama CDs were produced, all of which have been released with English subtitles by MangaGamer.
A two-volume spin-off manga series by Hachi Ito and Toi Rentsu featuring illustrations by Aya Fumio was released in Japanese by Hirari Comics. They continue the story after the events of the game, focusing on new characters with cameos by the game’s cast. Seven Seas Entertainment released the Kindred Spirits on the Roof manga in one omnibus volume in 2017. It is available for purchase digitally and in print.
