My parents loved silly names. Like eurus, or mycroft. Or babadook
Mary doesn’t make sense
Mary doesn’t make any sense.
When all is said and done and the dust has settled after series 4, I’m still left scratching my head over the character of Mary Morstan. She just doesn’t make any sense to me.
If they made her a sniper, why wasn’t she a sniper connected with Moriarty? That just made so much sense. WHY would a random ex-assassin have been randomly working as a nurse in some clinic that John happened to be working at by random coincidence. IF she were the sniper assigned by Moriarty to kill John it would have made so much more sense for why she was in John’s life to begin with.
Why did Mary not recognize Sherlock when he showed up at the restaurant? If she was a super smart spy type, she would want as much information on John as possible when he entered her life. Either she was placed there to watch John, or she stumbled on John but in either case, she would have Googled what his ex looked like. Being completely surprised by Sherlock and not knowing who he was would HAVE to be an act, and not a genuine response, and acting surprised when she wasn’t would NEED to have a reason behind it.
WHY did Mary shoot Sherlock in series 3? It made no sense and I kept waiting for some explanation – Moriarty was putting the pressure on her to kill Sherlock, she was using him as leverage against Mycroft … something. In the moment that Sherlock surprised her, it made NO sense for her to shoot him. He was clearly an ally on her side. She left Magnussen completely functional with yet MORE dirt on her. It never made sense & they never explained it.
Why did Sherlock force his heart back to life because his inner Moriarty told him John was in danger with “that wife” around? If Mary is an ex-assassin gone good and is protecting John then he’s really not in any more danger than he would be hanging around Sherlock.
Why was Mary suddenly Sherlock’s best friend in S4 when she shot him for no reason and then threatened him in the hospital if he told John? (And then later of course drugged him to run off and do secret spy shit on the sly.) Why did Sherlock seem to prefer Mary to John in S4 as a working companion? Why would he ever have reached a level to trust her?
Why would Mary have really jumped in front of a bullet to kill herself in that dopey aquarium scene? If she could jump like that, she could have just pushed Sherlock out of the way. It was a senseless sacrifice that made no sense.
To say that Mary is a sympathetic character that the audience is supposed to like is a bizarre whiplashy way of covering up all the inconsistencies and frankly huge gaping holes that seem to make up her character. They did a bad job of writing Mary and nothing anyone says at Sherlocked USA is going to change my mind on that.
This is the face of someone who knows he’s going into the basement after today’s interview on The One Show… (x)
“Yeah, we’re not gonna do [Sherlock] ehm… (*) for another couple of years, I think.”
(*) Fuck. I said “we”.
“I know you can’t talk about a lot of stuff” is a weird thing for an interviewer to say after a season has just aired and all the secrets (Eurus/Redbeard/…) are supposedly out
👀👀👀👀
how can anyone take s4 at face value when johns hair fucking changed from ‘i shampoo my hair’ to ‘i spend 15 mins delicately coiffing my hair with vo5 styling wax’ and sherlock....didnt even fucking do anything. the sherlock i know would be palms sweaty knees weak arms spaghetti if john so much as fuckin upgraded from tesco own brand shampoo to head & shoulders

tbh I’ve watched this film only because of Rupert Graves & bc Mark has mentioned it once, but
I think I’ve noticed something (it probaby doesn’t make sense but anyways)
ARE THEY SHERLOCK AND JOHN OR WHAT
@the-7-percent-solution @theelephantglassintheroom
It’s RIGHT THERRRRRRRRREEE look at it!! Wake up!!! See the light!!!! Ascend to my level!!!!!!!
See this is the thing? Are these gifts for us? Like queer lit and film gifts? Are they meant to be it? Are they damned to spend an eternity in subtext?
The fuck
okay so i’m going to start posting my stories from the con this weekend because a lot happened and i’m antsy to yell about it. so. i want to tell you this thing wanda ventham said. on friday night, there was a drinks reception and everyone sat in groups around the room, and the cast and crew members attending cycled through so we could all talk to them
when wanda was with us, we started talking about s4 specifically and she asked us if we’d all seen all of it, and we were all like “oh yeah” and then she asked “and did you know what it was about?”
everyone said “yeah!” and THEN she was like “but did you know what it was about?” a little bit more slowly and deliberately and at this point everyone’s a little confused and no one’s really answering and i’m leaning so far forward i’m about to fall onto the floor
but then she was just said “oh i really can’t say much more, mark’s right over there” and i’m internally like UH and then she just changed topics to talk about being surprised to find out she had a daughter and i was like UHH and it’s been five days and i’m still. winded
So Wanda is aware that S4 is “about” something that is not necessarily the surface narrative, and that Mark Gatiss does not want discussed/revealed publicly, is what I take from this.
S4 is about something, #confirmed. Thank god!!
you guys…………….
john: hey sherlock: [heart rate immediately up, palms sweating, hyper aware of his proximity to john, throat dry] sherlock:........hi
this is just a genuine curiosity, but why did we decide that S4 would be the big reveal? i'm just playing devils advocate here but what if they truest never intended for S4 to be when everything happens?
No, that’s a great question, @johnlocktapussy. It’s a bit of a convoluted answer, so I hope you will bear with me.
I’ve been in the fandom since right after S1 aired. It was always a fandom consensus that the show was based on a 5 act structure. I’m no literary scholar, but looking into that idea, makes sense as the show has followed pretty closely. So- five acts: five series.
I admit, personally, after watching TAB, I was like “holy shit!” They have really moved forward with the narrative (because I am a believer in endgame Johnlock) so I thought perhaps they were working to wrap everything up in S4. But, for me, that idea was also based on the fact that there was sooo much background noise concerning Ben and Martin being so much in demand and busy that a series 5 might not ever be possible (and still may not be, if they continue to be as popular and in demand as they have been). That all being said, I was prepared for S4 to go either way concerning canonization of Johnlock.
But, then the fandom kind of lost its collective minds because there were some very high profile tjlc blogs that predicted a kiss would happen in S4. It was like everyone forgot the very tenet we had built around what we thought was going on in the show for the sake of making Johnlock canon. We- collectively- as a fandom, set S4 up to fail by losing sight of the 5 act arc we knew was happening.
I know your question to me has to be a response to my posts all day regarding my anger over how things are playing out. I just want to say, I am not mad that we didn’t get Johnlock in S4 (it wasn’t time), what my anger is stemming from is the treatment we are getting from Mofftiss. I know what I have seen in this show. I believed in Johnlock as endgame long before tjlc ever thought to be a thing. I do not appreciate Mofftiss making me question my own ability to interpret what I am seeing. That is a form of mental abuse and is in no way acceptable from those in power.
I don’t know if this in any way answers your question, @sherlocktapussy. It is entirely possible that nothing was supposed to have been resolved in S4 (and shouldn’t have if the act structure is correct). It was the fandom’s wishful Johnlocking that made it seem that way, not anything else. Fingers crossed for S5. <3
Well, I don’t think that we alone decided it. The promo of S4 said “Sherlock is back and he’s in love”, authors and actor talked about “making television history” and something “groundbreaking”, so of course people was inclined to think there would be a revelation, instead of the mess we got. They said it, not us.
Good point. “It’s a culmination of everything we’ve been building up for the last six years of Sherlock, all kinds of clues and red herrings are finally paid off in episode three” (🙄🙄🙄). Of course, we got our hopes up. They were constantly repeating that S4 is the best series they’ve done so far. And, yes, the general baiting of the S4 promotion was explicit (notorious “Sherlock’s in love..” and TFP trailer with love confession as a culmination).
MHR was better than the entirety of TFP and it was only 7 minutes long
