She squeezes his hand when he takes her. To hold onto him. To cherish him. To prove to him that she’s really there, and he isn’t just dreaming again. He’s been gone long enough, Link deserved a break by now.

Sometimes, that break only came when he was on leave from his duties, and given a summer to spend with his wife.

Malon couldn’t remember a single bit of the manners her father had taught her over the years. How was one supposed to greet a princess again?

From left to right, oldest to youngest:

Fae, Roan, Brei, Phillip, and Eislyn!

Fae and Roan are Irish twins. Roan and Eislyn are the only ones who inherit Link’s blond hair, and his more pensive demeanor. All of the redheads have freckles. When Fae is old enough, she moves off the ranch and into Castle Town. Brei moves to Kakariko Village (into Link’s old house actually). Phillip lives up to his rather noble sounding name and becomes a knight. Eislyn takes up residence in a little cottage on the edge of the forest. Roan ends up inheriting the ranch and is primarily the one to care for Malon into her old age.

The only child who never gets to meet Link is Eislyn. She’s born after Link’s death. Phillip and Brei don’t really remember him much beyond blurred snippets of memories and children’s songs sung in another language as they’re tucked into bed. Fae and Roan have the most memories of him, and they hold them close to their hearts.

TP Link is Eislyn’s direct descendant.

Head on Lap: I trust you / feel safe with you.

Malon didn’t know how long he had traveled. She didn’t know how much bloodshed he’d seen. He was a knight of the realm now, and while at first she had admired him for that, since meeting her old friend again in Kakariko, the rancher had learned that ways of true knighthood were not like the stories.

She didn’t know why he had come here, instead of going to his own home, but she gathered it must be because his house in the village was empty and lonely and cold. And judging by the bandages on his arm and the foggy look in his eyes, he couldn’t be alone right now.

Callused fingers glided over his scalp, as smooth as silk, despite their weather. His head fit like a puzzle piece atop her thighs, the faded linen of her skirts acting as a bit of extra cushion. He stared straight up, at the canopy of the apple tree over them, as Malon sang gently.

He had just arrived... and without many words exchanged, he had pleaded for a chance to rest. They had never been in a situation so intimate before, but Malon didn’t push him away when he slumped over and leaned on her. She didn’t refuse him when he placed his head in her lap, looking for a soft place to rest.

She just sang to him gently, and petted his hair, until she watched his faded blue eyes droop and fall into slumber.

“...I’ve got ya, Grasshopper,” she murmured to him. “You’re safe here.”
