Summary: Gale and Astarion fall in love against the backdrop of being under the thumb of Cazador Szarr after the vampire lord purchase Gale from a vampire duchess.
Sharp Teeth and Gilded Cages
Astarion had long since given up flinching as Cazador gripped the back of his neck and angled his head the way he wanted it.
“Forgive me master,” Astarion let the apology role of his tongue. Practiced as usual.
Cazador walked a circle around him and nodded. “I suppose this will have to do. Chin up boy. It's a party. You should be honored I'm even allowing you to attend.”
“I am honored. Truly,” Astarion told him.
“Remember the rules. You will speak only when spoken to. You will not drink or eat. And if you are offered something you will decline. Understood.”
“Yes master,” Astarion nodded.
“Good. Now wait here,” Cazador smiled revealing the tips of his fangs and Astarion felt his spine straighten as the words washed over him.
“Yes…Master…” Astarion intoned.
He stood there for gods knew how long in that room. His feet glued to the floor. He couldn't move even if he really wanted to. All he could do was wait and watch as the sun crawled across the room.
When Cazador returned, dressed in his own finery.
“Come along boy,” he beckoned with the crook of his finger and Astarion stumbled as he legs worked, following after Cazador outside into the night air.
Astarion didn't exactly know where they were going. Which he figured was the point. If he didn't know them he couldn't run away. Not that he'd ever get far. Cazador made sure to remind him of that.
Astarion kept his gaze on the floor of the carriage. Cazador looked out the window. They didn't talk. His master wasn't interested in hearing what he had to say, but the silence was far from pleasant. It was deafening.
The carriage came to a stop and the foot attendant opened the door. Cazador stepped out first with Astarion a few pages behind. The manor they'd pulled up to was large. Not as large as the Szarr palace but it was up there. People spilled out onto the grounds.
Most of them mortal. Some of them thralls, there were other spawn and a handful of vampires. It was…jarring.
“My lord Szarr. We are so honored that you have chosen to attend our grand party,” a tall dark skinned woman approached them.
“Bow,” Cazador hissed at him under his breath and Astarion did as told as Cazador did the same, extending his hand as the woman extended her.
“Duchess Constanza, the honor is mine,” Cazador straightened and brought her hand up to kiss the top.
She was a vampire as far as Astarion could tell. Taller than Cazador. Dark skinned with long red hair and crystal blue eyes. She beckoned over a thrall who held a small tray with a type of bracelet on it.
“For your spawn, a sign of ownership to the other’s in the room,” she told Cazador. “Eat, drink, the main festivities will begin shortly.”
Cazador took the bracelet off the toy and locked it around Astarion’s wrist. It tightened with some kind of magic which meant that Astarion wouldn’t be able to take it off on his own and pinched his skin.
He looked around as Cazador mingled with some of the other guests. A loud gong rang throughout and they were ushered into a large ballroom with chairs. On the chairs were paddles with numbers carved into them.
Is this an auction? Astarion wondered as Cazador found his seat.
