Once they were back at her shop, she immediately locked the door and set out the closed sign. They were lucky that it wasn’t her busiest time of the year for new fashion; that had already passed. In the meantime, she decided to busy herself with cleaning up the shop - tidying the magazines, organizing her bundles of materials. She just needed some time to think. It didn’t help that Oogie started asking her questions.
“I have realized something, Oogie,” her tone sweet, but it seemed as if there could be something else underneath it all, “I’ve realized that I’m less of a soulmate, and more along the lines of a babysitter for the two of you.” Her voice never raised above a calm indoor voice - perhaps a little scarier than if she’d yelled?
“The two of you can’t be in the same room longer than two minutes before you’re at each other’s throats. How do you think that makes me feel?” She pointed the question to both of them. If they felt frustrated at being paired together, could they imagine how she felt about having to be the one in the middle of their constant fighting? “Neither of you can take five minutes to talk about all of this without insulting each other.”

Her words wiped the smile off of Oogie’s face as he watched her curiously. Was she right? If she was, it wasn’t fair to her that she’d been saddled with the two of them. That anger, frustration, it was easily understandable. ❝ Babysitter seems a little drastic now, don’t you think, darling? ❞ But he couldn’t come up with an actual reason for it to be untrue, that she wasn’t actually stuck being their babysitter and referee for the rest of their lifetimes. There wasn’t much good in Oogie, if any, and he wondered if perhaps he did hold a little bit of sentiment for her. She was a confusing creature, just as much as his feelings for Jack were at times. And it made him wonder if Jack had the same issue. His churning thoughts silenced him for the time being, Oogie wasn’t good at questioning his own existence or motives, it took all his concentration. That was fine, Jack was the more diplomatic of them after all.

❝ We’re here now, not at each other’s throats, ❞ Jack pointed out, though he knew that she had a point. Sighing, he looked at Oogie who was a bit concerning at the moment, but he was more worried over Sally right then. ❝ All you had to do was ask. Do you have a timer? ❞ he asked with a small smile, motioning over to Oogie before finding a seat for himself. ❝ Is that your only concern with this? Being tied to us? ❞

“Tell me I’m wrong, Oogie. Tell me I’m not constantly breaking you too up from some chaotic fight that threatens nearly everything.“ She noticed that Oogie went silent after his comment.
“Seriously, Jack?” This was a serious topic, about the rest of their lives - and the lives of Halloweentown’s denizens - and all he could do was joke. “The three of us are soulmates, and I seem to be the only one not appalled by the idea.” She loved the idea that she and Jack were meant to be - it simply confirmed the feelings she’d had from the beginning - and while she still harbored some not so nice feelings towards Oogie for the way he’d treated her, she was more than willing to give him a second chance.
