The afternoon was grey and quiet, and just as well as it seemed to be one of the first moments in weeks that Antonin was able to put work out of his mind and let his other thoughts rise to the surface and wander. The ministry was still in relative chaos, but it seemed that worries from international governing bodies had quieted some - or at least enough for him to avoid meetings near the end of the work day to afford him self some reprieve. With a copy of the Daily Prophet tucked under his arm, he found his way to Knockturn Alley, his feet drawn towards the shadowy cobblestone and air of uncertainty. He wandered his way into a cafe he’d seen countless times but had only visited on a couple occasions and swept into the seating area to claim a spot for himself. Kicking his shoes up onto another seat at his table, he unfolded the newspaper and began to skim the headlines when someone appeared at his elbow. There was a short pause before a vaguely tight sounding voice drew Antonin’s attention away from the paper.
His eyes quickly followed the lines that marked the young man’s face and neck as if he were scanning a roadmap, noting the faintness of the scars and the curve of their paths. He could tell a knife didn’t make them - far too jagged and wide - and then his eyes cast back down to the paper, a mild sense of curiosity swirling at the back of his mind. He’d hold onto that for later.
“Coffee, black. And a slice of loaf - whichever was most recently made, thank you.”
There’s a stretch of a stare at Remus, he can almost feel the other analyzing his face –the scars on them, probably. People had a tendency to not just overlook them. It changed, how he reacted, sometimes it was tired resignment, sometimes it was uncomfortable, this time… Remus could feel a knot in the bottom of his stomach. Lips pressed together, a single nod and “ Got it. ” when the other gave his order, and the wizard turned heel right back into the kitchen.
A hand came to his face, rubbing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose as he took a few more steps into the kitchen. Pulling out his wand and muttering a levitation spell under his breath, Remus gave a few flicks towards the stove and the dishes. A few moments later, a dish with hashbrowns and eggs was floating within reach. With the plate in hand, Remus returned to the dining area, placing it in front of the other customer that had been waiting when Dolohov had arrived “ Need anything else, let me know. ” He stole a glance at Dolohov as he walked back into the kitchen again
Another few flicks of the wand, the coffee pot was pouring into a mug, the bread knife was cutting from a loaf. Soon enough, Remus was stepping out of the kitchen with a mug of black coffee and a slice of a heavy bread. He placed them in front of Dolohov with a cordial, “ Need anything else, let me know. ”
