My collaged figures emerge almost by themselves. Then by a process of abstraction, they turn into darkly playful characters seeking but unable to make connections in their isolation.

Everyday Encounters
Everyday Encounters
Currently exhibiting at Cafe Zbar ,58 Stoke Newington High Street N16 7UR
The everyday encounters I have with people together with the free newspapers, magazines, flyers and other print material I pick up provide me with the raw materials for my collage. I like the idea of creating something from nothing- from the detritus of everyday life. The bizarre juxtapositions that happen in the building up of the collage plus the spontaneous drawing is designed to capture a spirit of fun, precisely by not being overworked, - a new dimension, causing the viewer to smile at the bizarre imagery. I love the random nature of collage and the unpredictability of the outcome. It’s some kind of absurdity. A clash of things that don’t belong together but suddenly do. It’s fun. At the same time I am interested in how form communicates emotion so powerfully.
Enjoying the freedom of collage
