The controversy surrounding AI data centers reminds us that technological progress must not come at the expense of community well-being. Constructive approaches include: 1) Establishing unified national standards for environmental and community impact assessments, and mandating public disclosure of data center energy consumption and noise levels; 2) Encouraging joint participation by local governments and residents in planning processes rather than relying on post-event protests; 3) Promoting research and development of green data center technologies (such as prioritizing renewable energy and adopting advanced cooling systems), while providing electricity price subsidies or infrastructure compensation to affected communities; 4) Congress should expedite review of the AI Data Center Suspension Act to ensure democratic decision-making keeps pace with technological advancements. Only by balancing innovation with humanistic considerations can AI truly become a force for benefit rather than disruption.
