You did what?
#stop flirting with death
clearly you have not met me
Oh, I have. Doesn’t mean I’ve stopped having faith in you being a better man, even if you drag yourself kicking and screaming.

“Alright, birthday boy. No more booze for you. Time for bed.”
talentforlying:
shots shots shots shots shots shots
i’m gonna make chas hid the liquor on a tall shelf
already done
.
Do you hate me?
“Don’t be an idiot.”
It’s mumbled as he slouches closer, trying to keep the conversation private. Leave it to John to want to air their dirty laundry in the middle of the street, in the middle of a job.
Chas has never loved another soul the way he loves John Constantine.
“I wouldn’t keep dying for you if I did.”
"Dying in your arms, the best way to go out."
“ NO —— no, ‘ang on, CHAS, you prick!! “
fingers dig into those broad shoulders hard enough to bruise, and he gives the limp form a FRANTIC shake, eyes stricken with lightning darting an electrified stare from lips to chest to lips to eyes to chest to face, searching for some sign of life even as beneath the press of his palm he can feel that steady, soothing rhythm beginning to stutter off into a heart-rending stagger of falters and murmurs. it’s like the air has been robbed from his lungs, snatched away with fingers cold enough to steal frost up into his chest where it freezes him SOLID from the inside out, and the salt stinging his eyes seems to burn all the fiercer for the chill slithering down his spine.
“ you FUCKIN’ bastard, don’t you dare do this t’me, not YOU!! I’M the selfish one, yeah?! we agreed on that. don’t you fuckin’ – fuckin’ DIE on me, i still NEED YOU!! “
a MANIC laugh, desperate, a strangled sound that catches in his throat and threatens to BREAK, and the palm of his hand collides against stubbled cheek, again, anything to keep his best mate awake, alive.
“ c’mon ———— we were gonna go t’the kop, remember? everton was gonna kick chelsea’s ARSE, an’ i was gonna try n’embarrass ye on tha’ great soddin’ telly they ‘ave there. only … heh, guess that was s’pposed t’be a surprise, wunnit? CHAS. CHAS!! c’mon, mate, don’t you do this t’me —- “
forehead presses against chas’s, voice finally breaking in an unsteady rattle of grief, because they both know chas is going to a better place than constantine is, and god help him, but he’s selfish enough to want to keep chas from the heaven he DESERVES just to keep the man he loves in more ways than one at his side.
“ chas —- chas, you BASTARD, we both know yer goin’ to ‘eaven, an’ … an’ we both know where i’m goin’. just … christ ——– DON’T YOU GO WHERE I CAN’T FOLLOW, chas, not … not YET – “
My muse HAS to answer everything truthfully for one hour, starting now!
“Calm down, calm down. It’s me! You’re not where you think you are, you’re safe with me at home.”
There’s blood under his nails. In the back of his throat. Crusted to his eyelashes. Chas can feel where the chains have bitten into his skin, where he’s thrashed and convulsed so much that the bed beneath him is groaning under the stress.
He can’t see. Even with his eyes open, the world is black around him, steeped in darkness and shadow.
But he hears her voice, distant like it’s at the end of a tunnel. Begging him to calm down. Chas’ muscles constrict, body fighting even the simplest urge to lie still. To give up.
“Kill me.” It’s a plea, bubbled up on raw, chapped lips as he turns blindly towards the sound of her voice. “Please, Liv. Make it stop.”
rescued/escaped hostage starter sentences
“Calm down, calm down. It’s me! You’re not where you think you are, you’re safe with me at home.” “You need to snap out of it, it’s a flashback. Nobody is going to hurt you anymore, trust me!” “Help! I need help! Call the police, please. Help me! Don’t let him/her find me! I escaped, but he/she’s after me!” “Listen, listen. You are going to be okay. He/she is locked away for good, alright?” ”It’s a very strange idea that someone will spend the rest of their life in prison because of what they did to me.” ”I don’t want her/him to go to prison. She/he did it because she/he loved me.” “Can you please tell me what happened while you were… gone?” ”I never stopped thinking about you.” ”The police told me it would be best to assume you were dead, because of what might be happening to you otherwise… But I could never convince myself.” “We kept your bedroom the way it always was… I understand if you’d want it changed, but I want you to know that we never lost hope that you’d come back home.” “Is that– Is that really you? Oh my god! I can’t believe it’s you!” “How do you feel after your first night home?” “The police will need to ask you about what happened… but maybe you want to tell us first? You haven’t said a thing since we got you back!” “We have imagined the worst things that could have happened to you. Please just tell us so we can try to move on and help you.” “Shh, it was a nightmare. You’re in your own bedroom.” “If you want to start living your old life, you’re going to have to start putting what happened to you behind you.” “I can never be who I used to be! I was gone for years! And you expect me to go through some therapy and have my old life back?! That’s never going to happen!” ”Were you scared all the time? Or… or did you get used to it?” ”I’m not even sure what I’d rather hear, that you were always afraid or that you actually liked it there.” “Nothing happened. I just ran away. I was sick of being here. I just made it up to sound interesting.” “Will you please come out of your bedroom… I know you’re probably not comfortable with the amount of space after what you’re used to, but please try…” “I’m here for you. I’ll keep you safe. I’m not going to lose you a second time.” “Shh, it’s okay! It’s normal to have flashbacks, but you have to try to focus on me now.” “You can’t go back there! Are you insane? Why do you want to?!”
didn't regret it on new year's, did i? stone fuckin' sober then.
“You looked me in the eye and told me we can’t.”
y'know what chas? fuck all this dancin' about. ( kisses him full on the mouth. )
John tastes like cigarettes and old whiskey.
If regret had a flavor, that would probably be it. He thinks of New Year’s of everything that followed. Promises handed over in blood and what little soul he had to offer.
All of it, for him.
And he’d do it again. Every death, every agony, every scream and slammed door, every night on his own couch. Chas fights the kiss because he knows once he’s in it, once he’s pressed close...
He’s lost to it, big hands cupping John’s cheeks to hold him still, like he might finally capture lightning in a bottle and convince his friend to stay. Chas kisses with all the love and loyalty in his heart, and hopes it doesn’t taste of goodbye as much as it feels.
When he pulls away, it’s with reluctance. What he wouldn’t do with five more minutes.
“You’ll regret this, when you sober up.”
‘cos m’drunk, why else?
( glass clinks as it’s slammed down onto the table with more force than necessary, a slosh as he refills it. whiskey, of course, scorching his throat as it goes down. )
Of course you are.
[And yet, that’s a hand on the back of John’s neck, warm skin against warm skin.]
Any special occasion?
‘course not. just cost ye renee, an’ almost geraldine, too, just cost ye yer life over an’ over again, but 'COURSE NOT.
[How long suffering can a sigh be?]
Why are you doing this?
and you’re sure of that, are ye.
I don’t regret you.
[No minced words, no way for John to twist it.]
