This week topics encompassed intersectionality, race and gender in social media. I am a 31 year old, white male, who grew up in a middle class family in St. Louis, MO. The exploration into the subjects of Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter opened my eyes to my jaded way of thinking. With my understanding of the separation and segregation that is still prevalent in our cities across this country. It is important for me to step back and take a look at what Black Lives Matter is portraying. The trending topic at its heart is not saying that black lives are the only lives that matter but their lives matter to. I am in not in a potion to step in to the shoes of another person and fully understand what it is like to be discriminated against or targeted. While the All Lives Matter saying may look good on the surface to encompass everyone. It is still at its core a reaction by white people to the black lives matter moment.
