Masonal is unique among the Cipher Squad Leaders in that he does not command a proper squad. Instead, his role is that of an administrative officer, which his rank of “C.a” denotes - overseeing the various deployments, unit operations, and other things concerning the readiness of the personnel that make up the Ciphers.

Early on in the Ision War, he was the sixth squad leader of the Ciphers and a senior member among the division as a whole. However, the higher-ups moved him into an administrative position ostensibly to put to use his exceptional logistical talent, a fact begrudgingly accepted by Masonal. The “well-oiled machine” analogy is frequently overused, but if one is to apply it to the Ciphers, Masonal is oil of the cream of the crop variety. His auspicious importance is such that even the normally calculating and conceited Dokem acquiesces to Masonal’s directives; the two have an unusual mutual respect for each other, and while they do not insomuch frequently work together, neither do they ever get in each other’s way.

Nominally, he is relegated to this oversight role, but in practice he retains possession of an AC - though he would simply rather not take to the battlefield, preferring desk work. (Nowadays, he would only be called upon to deploy in exceptionally grave “all hands on deck” circumstances.) LAGSPIKE is a heavily weathered purple-and-indigo lightweight biped armed with hybrid-melee laser weapons and two laser drone launchers. During his time as C.VI, Masonal used the laser drone launchers to flank his enemies to great effect, outnumbering them on all sides with starbursts of suppressive fire; while the technology is a generation or two old now, its effectiveness remains undulled.
