Joker talks a lot. Batman, he seems like he's not listening most of the time, thinking and doing good stuff and all.

But imagine this, one moment of Joker talking about something and Batman is like "didnt you say [blah blah and more blah] three months and one week ago on a Tuesday"

Batman has two files on the Joker. One is ofcourse the criminal history and any information in relation to that, any weaknesses or patterns in violence, bones he knows the Joker has broken so he can use the weak spots against him etc.

And then the other one is just pages upon pages of notes on everything the clown tells him about. From favourite foods to drama amongst the henchmen to past traumas mentioned in passing. The reason Batman doesnt respond much when the Joker is talking isn’t because he doesnt listen or care, it’s because he’s reminding himself to note all this down when he gets back to the cave. He knows the Joker’s favourite colour is purple and he only adapted green into his outfits to match the hair, he knows the Joker loves this dingy fast food kiosk in the east of Gotham because they never refuse service to him unlike all the other fast food spots but that the Joker actually misses going to a specific cafe in the city centre that started refusing him service when the media caught onto all his worst crimes, he knows the Joker prefers rosé over red or white wine, he knows which candies the Joker likes best and which ones he’s eaten too much and grown sick of. He updates his file every time they meet and the Joker blabbers on about some meaningless this that or other. And when eventually their fucking and fighting on rooftops turns into secret nights spent in cheap motels or the Jokers various grimy apartments Batman won’t say a thing. He’ll just bring a bottle of rosé. Or buy something from that cafe ahead of time. It’s just teeny tiny things he figures the Joker will pass off as coincidences. But the Joker knows. He knows his Bat listens, pays attention. Cares. But neither of them break the silence, both feigning that their relationship is superficial and just about sex. It’s a facade made of glass. And yet they refuse to break it, because they don’t want to confront how they’d have to change for eachother if they were to take it any more seriously. The Joker refuses to face that maybe he’s not entirely too broken to feel something soft when his thighs are entangled with Batmans after a long night. And Batman refuses to face that he could infact stoop so low as to fall for a man so blatantly evil
