So I’m going to take a minute to talk about my favorite boss/ character in The Secret World, Halina Ilyushin, who also would make a great WoD antagonist.
Halina was part of a secret soviet program to create the ‘phantom cosmonaut’ a being capable of astral projecting into the stars. Most of her life was spent in the facility being filled with pure life energy and anti-life energy (aka The Filth) to try to enable to form that was left behind to be able to survive in space.
She was the only survivor of the program.
After the group running the experimentation was dissolved Halina was sealed in the facility alone with nothing but the AI core maintaining the run down bunker and her broken dreams, never to see the stars she spent decades training to see.
The dungeon she is the final boss of is my favorite in the game and she gets some of the most beautifully tragic quotes
“You can’t imagine what I have dreamed”
“The gold turns to black. The blood keeps coming. Blood and Whispers”
“They promised me the cosmos for so long!”
“Infinite void, accept me.”
“Black stars collide with the mind. Please adjust the pressure, I’m not comfortable”
“You cling to the earth and it clings to you. Like gravity. It denies you the cosmos ”
“I am the first true traveler. I am the modular structure.”
“Screaming stars impale me with beauty. The anthem of dreams”
“Contact. Goodnight. The cosmos is cold and pierced with promises.” (On Death)
I could easily see Halina as a mage antagonist, maybe a forgotten god machine experiment or a potential horror of a second sight game. Me being me I can also read her as a changeling, experimented on, torn apart and rebuilt by a keeper who eventually dropped her back in back in the real world to watch her cope. This is probably what happens when you give an elemental the telluric kith.
