Fandom Problem #14,121:

When one particular show/game/film in a genre becomes popular, and suddenly everything else in that genre is compared to it, even if it has little to nothing in common, even if it came out before the the thing it's being compared to, or even if it isn't even the same subgenre, particularly when it comes to fantasy.

Examples I've seen:

Any furry media after Zootopia came out

Any fantasy after Harry Potter came out, especially if it happens to feature a school despite multiple books and shows about magic schools existing beforehand

Any high fantasy after the LOTR films came out, or after DnD regained mass popularity

Any monster catching game after Pokemon

Any mythology adaptation after the Percy Jackson books

Any Open World after BOTW

Any superhero film after the MCU

Any urban fantasy after The Owl House came out (this is a newer one)

Any Sci-Fi Space Opera after Star Wars

I wasn’t in the fandom when s1 came out, but everybody has said that the loustat beheading was Rolin’s idea. Hannah just wrote it. And even though she wrote the episode, I doubt that 1x05 was done solo and was not a part of Rolin’s original vision. There’s too much lore baked into it for her to have made that decision without the showrunner’s backing. I don’t know how I feel about Hannah being showrunner, but I feel like the fandom gives her a lot of shit for key plot points of her episodes that she could not have decided by herself and in the case of 3x07, that wasn’t even her idea.

Oh, the writing choices themselves are just the baseline issue. The main issue that holds the actual ramifications is the fact that she has routinely demonstrated she doesn't understand these characters and has demonstrated an active hatred of Lestat and a total misread of the entire point of his character.

THAT is the true issue.

I'm supposed to trust Lestat in the hands of the person who said he was "evil" and a "fucking monster"? NO!

I'm happy it's renewed (even though I've known this for awhile), but I'm sick at the thought of Hannah being the showrunner and also rather indignant that Lestat's season has been treated like an inconsequential stepping stone.

“go to hell” is basic. it’s boring. “i hope your favorite book character of all time gets adapted in a way that has the majority of the fandom viewing them as a villain and rapist” is real. it’s terrifying. and it’s happening to me.
