sparketry
[🌱] The sparketry made its way closer to Ambulon, helm lowered and tail dragging behind them. Listening quietly, it frowned. But why not just make a new one ? Why did they have to take it ? Weren’t there spares around ? It wanted to ask all these questions, but it could feel the uneasiness and struggling vibes that they gave off. Just the voice pitch alone told it that it shouldn’t ask questions.
[🌱] Once they were close enough, they moved to rest their cheek against their arm, slowly moving closer and rubbing their face into it. Looking up at the other, it let out a small, sad coo. It wanted to do something, anything, to make him feel better. Wasn’t there something they could do ?
[🌱] Looking down, the sparketry looked at their own digits; fish hook tips and clawed digits, used mainly for snaring and holding onto prey. But they moved to rest on the others thigh and one servo hooking around Ambulon’s arm. Almost like an embrace, but just holding it to let them know they were there. They weren’t alone.
Ambulon wasn’t one to really react to being touched, but without his sense of sight, he was unable to foresee the touch of the other. He jumped slightly and let out a sharp ex-vent, a servo to his chassis as he chuckled meekly. “Oh jeez, don’t do that.” He said softly, feeling the smaller and younger mecha nuzzle against his arm.
He moved his servo from his chassis to their helm, moving to trace it lightly and then to gently rub it. Feeling the other wrap a servo around his arm made him realize he hadn’t had anyone dependent on him in what seemed forever. Without First Aid or Ratchet here, he was truly alone. And now with the spark eater here, he didn’t feel so alone.
He smiled softly as he rubbed their helm, his engine idling weakly from its scratched up container. “Thank you, my little friend... I’m glad you’re here. I really need someone to talk to.” He said softly, tilting his helm to the side as he tried to muster something to start a conversation. Not that he expected the other to actually talk back to him.
“How is it going where you come from? Is everything going alright there?” He asked, keeping his servo on their helm, stroking the spines and soon moving to just rest it on his lap. He was sure he’d be able to tell the answer by the pitch of their voice.
sparketry
[🌱] The sparketry was able to find their way in, snooping around the vents and peering in each grate down into the room below. When the scent was strongest, it dropped down into the room with a crash before stumbling around. The dark wasn’t a problem for it as it looked around, tail flicking. It could smell Ambulon heavily on the berth and chair, so it moved to crawl itself onto the berth and curl up.
[🌱] It waited. And while it waited, it picked at its claws and chewed on its arm for a while. After doing that, it rolled around on the berth, getting comfortable and covered in Ambulon’s scent. After that, it started to doze off. Not long after, it was asleep. It slept quietly, unaware of anything or anyone that could be in the room with it, which meant it felt completely safe.
[🌱] When the door opened, its optics flickered open and it yawned, soon blinking and recoiling from the sudden light that turned on. A small, tired whine before watching Ambulon’s weird movements. Once their optics adjusted, it frowned. Why did he not have his optic ? Where was the yellow color ? It watched as he fumbled around, searching for it.
[🌱] Letting out a small coo, it moved to sit up, watching as he felt the chair and asked where it was. It let out a small chirp to tell him it was here, on the berth. The chair would be empty. It hoped Ambulon was OK, and wanted to know why he didn’t have his yellow optic. It was such a pretty color, too !
Ambulon tensed when he heard the chirp and turned slightly towards where he heard it. “Oh, you’re not on the chair, are you?” He asked before he felt along the back and arms of the chair to maneuver his way to the berth.
Feeling along the sheets until he was close enough, he turned to sit down. Looking to his right and then his left, he smiled softly. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier, Pharma needed me.” He said softly, lowering his head to make it look like he was looking at his servos, soon gripping them tightly.
“He broke the first optic, so he needed a new one. And so he took mine.” He said softly, his voice ever so quiet. He hoped to get it back, at least. He didn’t like being in the darkness for so long. It was eerie and it was as if he could hear voices. Many, many voices.

sparketry
[🌱] It let out a small squeak as it was lifted, soon nuzzling close into his neck and chin, purring softly and holding onto him. But it cringed slightly when it heard some yelling and its tail curled around Ambulon’s waist, as if not wanting him to go. Or to be put down.
[🌱] It whined when it was put down, pouting slightly as it sat on the floor, but it nodded quietly when asked if it remembered where his room was. It sighed and let its tail drag along the floor.
[🌱] Watching him soon walk away from it, it moved to walk around the floor and sniff along the floor, picking up Ambulon’s scent easily as it moved along the darkened hallways. Soon enough, darting past screaming cells, it found the room. But Ambulon forgot to tell it how to enter the room.
[🌱] Adventure time ! The sparketry wandered along the sides of the halls, looking for a vent and a hint of its own scent to find a way into the room by the vents.
It took three hours of being absent from his friend. And he was glad that Pharma didn’t come looking for him, or he’d have put the youngling in danger. Pharma would have loved to have a new science experiment, just to see how spark eaters ticked.
But when the three hours were up, the tired mecha made his way down the screaming halls and at his door, opening it and slipping into the darkness. Fumbling for the light switch, turning it on before realizing, he didn’t need it. He vented and ran his digits along his face. Force of habit, he guessed.
“Where are you at? Did you find the room OK?” he asked as he waved his servos around so he wouldn’t run into anything. Yes, Pharma had decided he wanted two optics instead of one to base blueprints off of. Maybe because he severely damaged the first one. Yeah, that had to be it.
Or he was just mad at him. Again. For no reason, other than some poor experiment of his failed. As usual. Pharma seemed to have a temper and a mind that never really was clear enough to let him work the way he wanted to. He was starting to regret ever volunteering to stay back here on Delphi to care for the other prisoners and patients. But he learned from his mistake and he was trapped here, no longer a friend of Pharma’s, but a personal punching bag and prisoner.
Walking around the room, he felt around for his chair and found it, patting the seat to see if the spark eater was there.
He may be a monster.
But he’s still my friend.
sparketry
[🌱] The sparketry looked up at him, moving back a bit when he knelt down before pressing into that servo. It was really nice to see him again, it was happy to see that he was OK. The past times, he was so tired, so scared and missing parts of himself.
[🌱] It let out a small coo and nod, understand what he was saying, having learned certain words and what they meant over the years it wandered. Looking up at him, it tipped its helm, wondering if he was OK. It couldn’t help but want to have Ambulon stay with it on ‘appa’s ship. But it didn’t know how ‘appa would feel about that.
[🌱] Moving closer, it rested its cheek on the others knee and looked up at him. It wanted to stay for a while, hopefully it could. It knew how lonely Ambulon would be without someone other than that loud mecha, Pharma.
Ambulon watched as it moved closer, soon smiling and petting its helm again. “Why don’t we go back to my room? I’m sure I have some food for you there. Your travel must have been tiring.” He said softly as he moved to pick them up. He grunted with the effort. Well, they were heavier than the last time, they must be well fed.
Slowly, Ambulon started his way down the halls and back to his own room, but he paused when he heard a voice.
AMBULON?
Pharma. Pharma was calling for him. Ambulon sighed heavily, soon looking down at the spark eater and frowned. “I guess you can wait in my room, you remember where it is?” He asked, soon wincing slightly as he heard the yelling of his name from Pharma again.
“I’m so sorry.” He whispered as he set the spark eater down, starting to head towards where he was being called. Apparently Pharma wasn’t done with him.
sparketry
[🌱] There wasn’t much of a reply from the little sparketry, but there was a loud scurry of pedes after hearing the voice of the one it was looking for. But the pedes slowed and soon it was silent again.
[🌱] Peering from behind a wall where it stopped, it looked up to see Ambulon looking around nervously, calling out to anyone who was in the area. It had stopped to make sure it wasn’t a trick of some sort and would end up in trouble again. It learned its lesson a long time ago that a friendly voice didn’t always belong to a friendly and understanding mind or person.
[🌱] Sure that it was really Ambulon himself, it moved forward slowly and let out a small, timid little chirp to alert the other of where it was. It came closer, stopping and going before it sat in front of Ambulon, looking up at him with wide optics and a soft coo. Hello, Ambulon.
Ambulon jumpped slightly, but he looked down to see the little sparketry sitting before him. He sighed heavily, but he smiled. “Hello to you too, dear.” He said softly as he moved to kneel down in front of them. A heavy sigh and a rub of his neck. He wasn’t sure what to say to someone who didn’t really speak. Other than just smiling.
“How are you? Hopefully things are going well for you on your end of the world.” He chuckled softly, moving to reach out and touch their helm, rubbing it gently. He wondered, did it have a nice place to stay? Was it well fed, kept clean, had enough love and affection?
He hoped so.
sparketry
[🌱] The sparketry wasn’t too keen on going from place to place in a strange and confusing way of transportation. Some said that ventilation systems led to different dimensions. Some say the sewers led to the past. While others thought that sleeping allowed you to enter another universe entirely. As for the little sparketry, the claws click clacked upon the vents as it pulled itself through segments of steel.
[🌱] A small huff and soon a helm peered out from the floor’s vents, looking around at first to ensure that the coast was clear, it pulled itself out. Crawling on all fours along the floor, watching with wide optics as it let its audial fins vibrate eagerly, hoping to find the one it came to visit.
[🌱] A bang sounded nearby, one of the patients was rowdy and anxious as they continued to slam their fists onto the steel door, soon shouting and screaming. Something along the lines of I fucking hear you out there, you mosnter! Let me out of here! LET ME OUT OF HERE! which caused the young sparketry to back up, tail tucked firmly between its legs before turning around and dashing down the hall.
[🌱] When the pounding was silenced, the sparketry slowed. Slowed enough to wander down a rather dark corridor. There was a light at the end of the corridor and it hurried its way down to the safety of light. Looking around anxiously, it let out a small, noticable whine and whimper. Almost as if crying out for Ambulon. Where was he ? Why wasn’t he anywhere nearby ? It was struggling to pick up the spark energy, drainer flicking out to the air and then to the ground, seeing if it could pick up a trace.
[🌱] Nothing.
Ambulon was pretty focused when it came to work, and the sudden sound of a whine and whimper fell on deaf audios. Luckily enough, Ambulon was about to get up and head out to grab some fresh energon to store in his room for whenever he needed to refuel. Sadly, though, he wasn’t allowed over a certain amount for the sake of “running out before Tarn brought in the next shipment”.
Which, of course, Ambulon couldn’t blame him for wanting to keep as much energon as they could in case if Tarn couldn’t make it in or they got contaminated. Pharma would make sure that Ambulon would have the first part of the batch to make sure it wasn’t poisoned. Lots of mecha wanted Pharma dead.
Upon exiting the room, he paused, thinking he saw something in the corner of his optic and arched a brow. Instead of going down the way he was, he went the opposite direction. Rounding a corner and walking slowly, his pedes hardly made a sound as he listened to the banging, whimpering and soft cries of patients locked in their cells.
Wandering still down the dark hallway and towards a small light at the end of the hall, he paused. Rubbing a servo to his helm, he tilted his helm and looked from side to side, being blinded on one side was unfortunate. He’d be a pretty easy target, even for a hungry, little spark eater like the one he’d gotten to personally know.
“Hello?” He called out cautiously, “Is anyone there?”
It’s been a good month since the ex-medic had seen his little friend. He wonders if he’s doing alright, and hopes he’s being well fed. Better than him, anyway.
With a soft sigh, Ambulon leans back in his chair, a wrap covering his optic that was taken by Pharma because he needed a blueprint of an existing optic and hasn’t returned it since. Ambulon figures that Pharma just did it out of spite and because he was in a bad mood. One of his experiments wasn’t going as well as he’d hope and the only one he’d rather torture was Ambulon himself.
Although he knew Pharma was only frustrated with his own work and refused any sort of help from anyone else (besides Tarn, of course), he just hung back and stayed hidden in his room, going over files and studying formulas on his behalf. After all, Pharma wanted to make him useful, as both a organ donor and medical expert. Of course, he’d never match up to Pharma.
Pharma was boss, top dog, the head hancho of the whole facility of Delphi. And he wasn’t going to step out of line just to get a digit shot off. No sir, he would do what he was told like a good little cog and stay out of his way unless summoned.
Still.
He was lonely, he missed his little friend. Maybe he’d go looking for him. Or maybe he’d just keep focusing on his work and not get in trouble like the last time.
Choices, choices.
