College can be one the most memorable times of a young adult’s life. It is a student’s first step into “adulthood”. And, of course, becoming an adult means that you will most likely have to take on more responsibilities. Some of these responsibilities including cleaning up after yourself, making your own food, and spending your own money. Even though there are some lucky kids out there that do not have to be so independent in college since their parents still pay for everything,  majority of the student bodies in the world will realize that they will have to deal with some financial struggles. Some people may not know where to start saving money, though. They may trying putting all of their daily loose change in a piggy bank or not go out as much, but let us be honest; nobody wants to spend their college days being alone and bored in their dorm. They want to have fun! Well here is a smart way to save your wallets from having an empty pocket; coupons!

           It has been proven that households with incomes that are $100,000 or more are two times more likely to shop with coupons than those households that are make $35,000 or less! You would think that the people who make less money would be more interested in couponing than those that are making thousands upon thousands of dollars. Coupons should be just as essential as someone’s car keys; you should never leave without them! You would be surprised to see how much money you can save just by handing the clerk a “SAVE $2.00 NOW” ticket. These discount vouchers can be found almost anywhere! From the local newspapers to grocery store isles to even the advertisements on the sides of social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.

           Grocery stores like Publix for example is one of those high end coupon advertisers. Something as little as BOGOs (Buy One, Get One) or “$2 for $5” deals can be a good start to saving some change here and there. Going to grocery stores that always have these kind of deals can be the first step to saving up for those college payments of rent or loans. They may not seem like much to you now, but wait until you see your bank account reach a number that you probably have not seen in years! It will feel great and you will want to continue your savings. Shopping at your local Family Dollar Tree will not seem as embarrassing when you are in college either because you will be saving a lot more than the rest of your friends. You may be worried about some of the expiration dates on your coupons as well, but not to worry. Sometimes, there are places that will honor your coupons past their expiration date just because you are a wonderful customer or they really would hate for you not to come back because you could not save your money with them. And if you are not sure if they will honor then or not, there is no harm in asking.

           Oh! And coupons are not only available in your local newspaper, in today’s generation, they are now available right in the palm of your hand! With a simple tap on that “Get My Offer” from your smartphone, you are now able to get those coupons scanned and then BAM! 50% off that $59.99 16-piece table setting that you have been wanting for months! It is a great feeling when you are able to afford something without asking for your parents help. You could also receive discounts by signing up for a rewards card. Some places even offer a free sign up (which is always great).

           Now that you have learned the basics to saving money with coupons, you can start to stay calm about your savings account being so empty because very soon, it will be full of savings! Just remember, couponing should not take over your studies nor anything that deals with your schooling because your career always comes first (unless your career is going to be in couponing, they clip away). And yes, college can be stressful, but there are way to cope with the stress of not being able to save as much as you would like to. There are always ways to save whether or not it is by couponing in college or cutting down on your leisurely expenses here and there. Every students should know there options of saving money and couponing is one of those free options! Never underestimate your wisdom in saving because you may never know what that one coupon can do for you in your future.
