Third book down. Fuck. I am addicted. Finished this last night. (I was contemplating if I should finish it today but I said 'fuck it I'll start a new book tomorrow instead'.)
So yeah, we have The Upside of Falling. Same as the previous book, I also randomly chose this under the Kindle Unlimited filter. Caught my eye because of the nice book cover -- shouts High School, Teen Love, and Romance. I am already an adult, I know, but don't judge me.. most of the time I think I am still in high school. Light Spoilers Ahead.
Well, the love story is somehow cliche but it has a deeper story inside -- tackled family issues like dealing with divorce which is a tough spot to touch for some. And also, dealing with fixing an already 'broken' family and understanding how it affects the children. Acceptance, heartbreaks -- you name it.
I love how the story was told. It's not the typical Wattpad story I read before. The author clearly went through a lot (I don't know it seemed to me) and is really smart. The protagonists' love story made me giddy but not that giddy. It made me realize I'm already an adult and some are already cringe for me as it is sometimes too cheesy but if you're a teenager now, you will absolutely love it!
When the conflict of the story came, I felt the familiar tinge in my heart -- the satisfying pain I loved feeling but it was too shortlived for me because they reconciled fast. The female protagonist is somehow relatable but she's not the typical girl you will find in an I-am-a-unique-girl series, movies, and books. She has a very different personality. Also, I love that I really liked the mean girl after her redemption period. As for the male protagonist, I liked him. Not the type of guy that I prefer (the feeling of you want the guy to be real and be your boyfriend). Maybe I will partner him up with a friend. Great personality -- too perfect.
Some parts are already dragging for me but just a few. You will still like it as much as I did. I don't have much to say because this is not a long book. Maybe took me less than 3 hours to finish? This is a crap review so I will end it now. Sorry! Teenager self is rating this: 8.5/10 Adult self is rating this: 7/10.
