No, he wasn't in great shape, but I think she was just happy to see him ALIVE. It'd been months and she had no idea where he was for the longest time. She loves him, funk or no funk. "Hey, now we smell the same!" She tells him. He didn't love that.
Could you tell us more about this Sterling fellow?
I wonder how he would fare with Dicey…
Sterling Silver is Kipper's childhood friend, ex-boyfriend, and a total Hollywood hotshot. "This silver screen was MADE for the silver screen!" he says.

He and Kipper often played roles side-by-side in their schooling years. Though, their dynamic as actors quickly became competitive and he slowly began to loathe her presence. Not enough to break up with her, but enough to stop caring. He would coerce her into doing the less fun parts of art school...namely his assignments and studying. She'd coach him through his lines and direct him. He'd frequently ask for money for "actor supplies", or "food and bills", which would all then be blown on parties. Kip, of course, had rose-colored glasses on and did not become aware of ANY of this behavior until it was far too late.
In the months after Kipper's crippling fall, he did everything he could to distance himself from her. It didn't do his image well to be seen with her in such a state, and he couldn't get anything out of the relationship anymore. So...he disappeared. Took the first call he got from Hollywood and left town without a trace. Kip waited by the phone for months, confined to a wheelchair, and asked around as much as she could, but she never heard from him again. It wasn't until she saw his face in the papers and on the billboards around town that she realized he'd gone in pursuit of something bigger. (She refuses to watch his films, by the way.)
Sterling lives the outrageously extravagant life you'd expect from a celebrity. He's full of himself, pompous, and walks all over everybody. He gets whatever he wants on the double. A new partner on his arm every month. He barely even remembers Kipper now that he's made it big. Unfortunately, he's barely gotten any backlash for his behavior, because nobody has dared to ask. He oozes charisma, he's very persuasive, and can silence whoever he wants with a bribe. His eventual karma will be swift and unforgiving, though. Maybe.
Oh, and if Dice met him, he'd think he's overrated.

Sliiightly more introverted, but overall an ambivert! It depends on the setting she's in and who she's with. Most of the time, she's pretty quiet though. But all that shyness melts away once she's on a stage!
Heyaaa kip!! I wanted to ask, what drew you to King Dice / The cuphead show in the first place, and what do you find in him appealing that makes you yume him romantically? As someone who yumes him platonically, I’m very curious to understand your view on him more!!

It was my verrryy last semester in college, and I had basically just gotten dumped on Valentine's Day by my partner of seven years. And then right after, I got a nasty case of Covid and was stuck in bed for a whole week. Which, in your senior year, gets you VERY behind on everything. I was at a very low point emotionally and had lost interest with drawing and art as a whole. I had like...kept up with The Cuphead Show's updates and upcoming release up to that point? Trailers, clips, I was familiar with the game, at least. I decided to binge the whole thing on a whim a few days after this all went down, on the show's premiere date, and it was the first thing that had made me smile in a really long time, and the first thing that made me want to actually *try* drawing again. It was probably my first spark of inspiration in years. I was actively drawing, and the show had blessed me with the perfect muse. When King Dice's episode ended, my first thought was, "I miss him. I hope he shows up again." I immediately knew I was cooked. It brought me to rewatch the show over and over, join the community, save a thousand pictures of him to my poor phone, and I had also watched his voice actor, Wayne Brady, for a very long time on his improv shows, so it felt like I was already really acquainted with his character as an extension of that. With the artistic flame back after watching the show, I was able to put more effort into not just my art, but also my final college projects, and it was probably what moved me to get everything together and graduate.
His style, his charisma and popularity, but also being a complete pathetic loser is what sold me. Something about presentation =/= temperament is an instant way to get me on board with a character. He's canonically handsome, beloved, and influential, but he's also a total sycophant and rather weak behind the overblown persona. And he's SILLY!! To quote Jessica Rabbit, "He makes me laugh." To me, his story in the show felt like it had a lot more yet to be told, as if there were bits and pieces missing. I wanted to cultivate that aspect of the show and give it more narrative depth, while also touching on what Dice's character would be written like romantically, or how he might interact with different characters. So I wrote Kip to be his parallel, and to give him someone to talk to and grow from while staying on the set of his show. Real-life theatre events a few months later inspired me to go all-in on writing them as a full-fledged couple. And it just...never really stopped.
It's crazy to think it started almost five years ago. Sooo much has happened between now and then. But Dice is more than just a character to me at this point. He was what reinvigorated my passion for art, for writing, for creating in general. And not only that, but he's helped me improve more than I ever anticipated. He signals the closing of one long, arduous chapter of my life, and the opening of a new one. He's what led me to meet so many amazing people, and grow my community and audience. The outpouring of love for Kip and Dice has just been unprecedented, and moves me to continue doing what I love. The guy's not even real, but he's done so much for me. I can't really explain what one specific thing of his it is that brings me such comfort, but that's okay! He was just the right person, at the right time, I suppose.
What are your inspirations for Kipper's character?
Kipper is like a reflection of myself and my own life experiences! Each aspect of her story is loosely tied to something that happened to me (both the good and the bad parts, lol). I was inspired to create her story after I was called in to play the lead in a show day-of, which is also how I met my current partner (who played the romantic lead). Our relationship and how we met is very influential in how I write Dice & Kip. Her outfit is also based on what I wore while stage managing his other shows :) (photos from eaaaarly 2023)
As for characters…I would say Sawyer from Cats Don’t Dance, Sally Acorn from the Archie Sonic comics, Mia from La La Land, Meg from Hercules, Kobeni from Chainsaw Man, early seasons SpongeBob, and a blend of various Cuphead characters played a part in developing her character!
Honestly curious to know what would kipper think of Paris??

Sometimes, when a person has gone through many difficult situations, it can be hard to find the right words for them. Both of them have been scorned by past lovers, and were forced to retire from the career they actually wanted. In this case, I feel that Kipper would act particularly shy or reserved around her, and be excessively polite, too. Think of it like a nervous overcorrection towards her. I’m sure they could empathize over their shared feelings and experiences, but she’s worried she might offend her by coming on too bluntly.
With Kip, would her roles differ from the game and the show? and what kind of relationship would she have with game Dice?

This is all I got...Kipper screams NPC to me instead of an actual boss. I can't really see her working at the casino, either, so she wouldn't really have any direct ties to King Dice in this universe. I'll have to think about it some more!
Also a question ; What Kip would say about ash? And another one - does she have any nemesis ?
I feel like she'd see Ash as a younger sister figure/colleague! She'd like her style, and her spirit. (Though, I don't know if she'd know the whole story about who she is or used to be.)
As for nemeses...probably Capucine, her stanky older cousin who has it out for her, and Sterling, her ex-boyfriend who ditched her for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Though she's VERRRYYY slowly making amends with the former...

I covered this in a fic YEARSSS ago, so it's terribly out of date. I can try and rehash it as best I can...
Kipper was kind of familiar with King Dice already, having heard his show on the radio countless times while it played in the background, whether on the job, at Sally's, or while at home. But she'd never seen much of him since moving to the city. She was pretty hesitant about making the jump. In fact, it was Sally who encouraged her to take up the job opening at WINK when it appeared in the paper. (Working at the Inkwell Theatre for free only gets you so far, you know. "Put yourself out there!", she says.) She chatted with a few execs over the phone, sailed through a quick interview, and was given a day to come in for onboarding and training. That was when things started to go awry.
She was so nervous that she stayed up all night and consequently overslept. Her hands were so shaky that she spilled coffee down her initial "first-day-of-work" outfit. And when she was finally within eyeshot of the Roll the Dice building...a limousine flew by, clipped a puddle, and completely soaked her head to toe. Naturally, she cussed them out and made a lewd hand gesture. And then it pulled into the same building. Great first impression...
It was Charley Wink and the little pip cards who gave Kip the introductory tour around the place. She was a little unnerved by their demeanor...and VERY underwhelmed when they told her what she'd be getting paid. Not to mention far more responsibilities than what was initially let on by the classified section. She was signing the last few necessary documents when Charley greeted Dice, who'd just stepped in to update his boss on the pre-show status. When Kipper first saw him in person, it was like time had stood still, rainbows had formed, and birds had started singing...in an office, somehow. She ogled him for a solid ten seconds before he simply moved past her and asked Charley why he was letting fans into restricted areas. And then made a snarky remark about her stinking up the room. Whatever attraction she had just felt in the last few moments popped like a heart-shaped balloon. Charley nervously made some attempts to explain that Kip was in fact the new hire he'd been asking about in the days prior, and apologized for not giving proper notice. Dice gave him some grief in the hallway outside after that, but reluctantly agreed to show her around the set before the show. Kip, however, wanted to melt into a puddle and slip into the nearest drain.
It's around this time that it's becoming more and more obvious that today is in fact NOT a training day, but they fully expect Kip to take on the role of stage manager immediately. She expresses this concern to Dice, who questions her capability at this. Desperate to prove herself (and prove HIM wrong first and foremost), she proceeds with the work day... and completely fumbles it due to not knowing this exact stage or any of its operations yet. After closing up, Dice uses this to rub it in even further, because he's Dice. Maybe he thinks he's weeding out the weak, but it unfortunately has the opposite effect. After having a small meltdown on set, and wailing over the phone to Sally that night, she decides to tough it out and try again another day, overcompensate for the poor job she did, and prove herself as a capable assistant...while avoiding Dice for as long as possible. But I'd say it's a good thing she stayed, yeah?
I can do a quick lore drop on how they met, at least!
This is Ann de Toilette and Biff Puffley, Kipper's parents!
Ann de Toilette (real name Annette Parfum) is the eldest daughter of the Parfum line, with two younger sisters following her (Babette, and Colette. They are literally the ABC's.) As the next in line to inherit the family business, there was a lot of pressure placed on her in her early life to learn the tricks of the trade and be a successful heiress. She focused heavily on being a "perfect daughter" and upheld that role, even if it was to her detriment. This in turn led to a strong disconnect between her, her peers, and her younger sisters. She turned down countless outings and excursions, kept only a few close friends, and frequently prioritized the business over her own personal life.
One day, the city paper was stopping by to get a quick scoop on the future of the company. That was where Ann first met Biff. He was the young paperboy who'd tagged along to snap a few photos of the place, nothing more. While Ann's parents were loudly touring the others around, boasting about their ventures and enterprises…the two caught each other's eyes, made a few passing signals, and after a bit, snuck off from the group to meet and talk. He was disheveled, broke, and a little rough around the edges, but she was immediately enamored with his quips and integrity. To avoid suspicions, they agreed to meet at another time and quietly rejoined at the end of the press meeting. Ann knew her parents would not approve of her somebody such a different class, a "street urchin" in their eyes. Still, they'd meet at night and engage in long talks about all sorts of things, the discrepancies in their lifestyles, dirty jokes, what went on in the inner city, far from where Ann resided.
Naturally, after a few months of sneaking around, they were eventually caught by the Parfum family, who immediately disapproved. Despite her pleas, they were unrelenting and forbade them from continuing to see one another. At one point, Biff almost convinced Ann to run away from her imposing family, but she refused. He wouldn't give up on her, though. He'd still show up at her window, just to see her and talk, even if only for a minute. It was that persistence and commitment that made her continue to fall for him. One night, he appeared at the foot of the balcony to quietly tell Ann about his drafting as a pilot in the war. Knowing she might not see him ever again…they quickly agreed to elope the next night. While the family was asleep, they held a private ceremony with only the officiant as witness, far away from any other watching eyes. He left the Isles in the following weeks…and not one soul knew about the marriage but themselves. He served as an ace pilot in the Inkwell Military Force for the following three years…and Ann went back to building her life as a businesswoman. Not one question was raised, but they would send letters back and forth monthly to share whatever updates they could. The developments of the Isles, life overseas, silly jokes and local news. Their first few years of married life were difficult…but if they'd learned one thing, it's that dedication always won out in the end for them.
Things ran smoothly, until one day, when Ann wasn't the first to the mailbox. Instantly, her family demanded to know what was going on, who was contacting their daughter, and why there were such subjects written in these letters. No matter how she pleaded and tried to make her case, it fell on deaf ears. It wasn't until Biff was discharged and immediately returned home to his bride that they'd even see each other again. Although…he'd changed since their last meeting. His medal, the ring on his finger, he'd managed to clean himself up decently. This time, the family conceded and gave him a chance. They humbly recognized him and Ann's marriage, gave him a job, a shirt on his back, and a warm bed. He promised he'd continue to prove himself, and in due time, he did. After her parents' retirement, Ann eventually acquired the business, becoming the Chief of Operations, and Biff became the head Packaging Designer, using his roots in the newsprint industry to create appealing print and product designs. They settled in a home on the westernmost Isle of Inkwell, and not long after had their first and only daughter, Kipper. While they are loving and supportive parents to her, it's clear that the parental cycle has continued, with them upholding high standards and expectations regarding her career throughout her life. They prefer she'd show more interest in the certainty and stability of working in the family business, but they are also cautiously optimistic about her newfound interests in performing arts. Despite being married for thirty years now, they still operate smoothly as business partners, and quip and lovingly bicker like any old couple would. They're not perfect, but they are patient.
