Sparks in the Emergency Wing
Bakugou x F!Reader (OneShot) (Physical Attribute: Wings)
The emergency wing of the hospital never truly slept. Monitors beeped in uneven rhythms, nurses hurried through polished hallways, and the distant sound of helicopters landing on the rooftop came and went like clockwork. In the middle of it all stood Dr.(Y/N).
Your charcoal-colored wings rested neatly behind your back as you reviewed patient charts with your sharp (E/C) eyes. The feathers were sleek, elegant, and unmistakable. People noticed them immediately. But what truly made people stare was your reputation.
At only twenty-six years old, you had become one of the most respected doctors in Japan. Specialists requested your consultation. Medical journals fought for your attention. Even heroes trusted you with injuries they refused to let anyone else touch. You were calm under pressure. Precise. Beautiful. Terrifyingly intelligent.
And currently annoyed. "Again?" You asked flatly. A nurse beside you tried—and failed—to hide her smile. "He specifically requested you." She said all too cheerfully.
You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose. Of course he did. Because lying in Examination Room Three with a dramatic "injury" was none other than the Number Five Pro Hero, Katsuki Bakugou. Or, as the nurses secretly called him, Dr. (Y/N)’s favorite problem.
You walked out of your office and to the exam room. Pushing open the door, Bakugou looked up immediately. Even injured, he somehow looked annoyingly good. Ash-blond hair messy from battle, crimson eyes sharp despite exhaustion, broad shoulders stretched beneath a torn black compression shirt.
The second he saw you, a grin pulled at his mouth. "There's my favorite pretty doc!" He said his grin ever leaving as he was obviously flirting with you.
"You're bleeding on my examination table," you flatly replied as you grabbed exam gloves and prepared yourself. "Yeah, but now you're here, so I'm feelin' better already." He continued as his eyes never left your figure. You ignored the fluttering laughter from the nurse outside the door.
Bakugou had started showing up months ago. At first it made sense. He was a pro hero. Injuries came with the job.
But after the fourth visit in two weeks for injuries that barely qualified as serious, you began noticing patterns.
One: he only came during your shifts.
Two: he always requested you personally.
Three: he flirted relentlessly.
"You split your knuckles again," you said, as you grabbed his hand eyeing for any other injuries. "Any pain or discomfort?" You asked as you wrote down the notes. Bakugou leaned back against the bed, watching you closely. "Couldn't stop thinking about you doc." He said clearly ignoring your question.
"That's not medically relevant." You said grabbing the gauze, alcohol, and wraps to clean his wounds. "It is if you're the cause." Bakugou said with a smirk making you sigh. You cleaned the wound with practiced movements. Bakugou hissed. "Ow."
"You've taken explosions stronger than missiles...this should be nothing" you said as you continued to work making Bakugou grin.
"Yeah, but you're scary." He said as his crimson eyes took in your features up close. "Good." You replied not once looking at him. A low laugh escaped him. You hated that the sound affected you. The man was impossible.
Infuriatingly persistent.
And somehow sincere beneath all of it. You wrapped fresh bandages around his hand while he stared openly at you. "You always look this pretty after a twelve-hour shift?" he asked.
"Yes." You replied clearly annoyed now but Bakugou enjoyed every second of it. "Damn wish—
You tightened the bandages harder than necessary. Bakugou winced. “Okay, deserved that.”
"You flirt while actively injured. That's concerning behavior." You said as you cleaned up and wrote down the final notes to do the paperwork. "Nah," he said. "I just know what I want."
You paused for half a second. That confidence should have irritated you. Instead, it made warmth creep into you. Thankfully, Bakugou seemed too distracted watching your wings shift behind you to notice. "They're darker today," he said quietly.
You glanced at him. Most people only admired your wings because they were unusual. Bakugou however noticed details. "They change depending on stress levels," you answered before you could stop yourself. His brows lifted slightly. "Seriously?"
"Yes." You replied as you prepared his discharge papers. "So you're stressed?" He genuinely asked clearly curious. "You walked in bleeding again..." you muttered as you pushed up your glasses.
"That sounds like concern, you worried about me doc?" Bakugou said with a grin clearly enjoying this. "That sounds like more paperwork." You said with a sigh. Bakugou barked out a laugh. The sound filled the room warmly. For a moment, the hospital chaos outside disappeared. You stepped back after finishing his discharged papers. "You'll need to avoid overusing your right arm for at least three days."
"No can do." He smugly said making you cross your arms. "That wasn't a suggestion." You said as you furrowed your brows. "Then stay nearby and yell at me when I mess up." His smirk returned as you clicked your tongue. That's when your eyes met. Bakugou's expression softened just slightly.
Not the explosive hero the public knew. Not the aggressive fighter from headlines. Just a man looking at you like you mattered.
You looked away first. "You're discharged." You said preparing to leave. "You always kick me out this fast" he said clearly dissatisfied that he wasn't able to spend more time with you.
"You're not hurt and good to go." You said as you pinched the bridge of your nose. "Could always get hurt again tomorrow." He said shrugging his shoulders as he hopped off the bed.
"That sounds intentional." You said flatly. He smirked. That was answer enough. You sighed and walked out leaving him alone with that smirk plastered onto his face.
And somehow, Bakugou kept finding reasons to visit.
Once, he came in with a bruise that barely required ice. "You're wasting hospital resources," you informed him. "I'm supporting the medical industry." He stated as you grabbed ice and shoved it to his face.
"You could donate instead." You snarled at him. "Can't flirt with a donation box." He countered as his large hand grabbed onto yours that was holding the ice. You stared at him blankly while nearby nurses fought for their lives trying not to laugh. Quickly you removed your hand and once again gave him his discharge papers.
Everyone in the hospital knew. The Number Five Hero was hopelessly in love with Dr.(Y/N).
And despite your professional composure...you never turned him away.
One rainy evening, Bakugou arrived far more injured than usual. The moment you saw the blood soaking through his hero costume, your stomach dropped. "Move," you ordered sharply. The nurses immediately obeyed. Bakugou sat heavily on the examination bed, breathing rougher than normal.
A deep gash cut across his side. Your wings flared instinctively. "What happened?" You demanded as you prepared the antiseptic and bandages. "Villain had blades," he muttered as he grit his teeth from the pain.
"You should've gone to surgery immediately." You scolded knowing another doctor could have handled the case.
"Wanted you first." He said with a smirk despite the pain and blood. You shot him a glare sharp enough to cut steel. "This isn't funny!" You yelled grabbing your gloves and getting to work.
For once, Bakugou didn't joke. His eyes stayed on you while you worked quickly to stop the bleeding. "You worried about me, doc?" he asked quietly. "Yes," you answered before thinking.
The room fell still. Even the nurses froze.
Bakugou blinked. You realized what you admitted and immediately focused harder on stitching the wound. "You should be more careful," you muttered, despite the red hues tinting your cheeks.
A slow grin spread across Bakugou's face despite the pain. "There it is." He roughly said through pants.
"There what is?" You asked as you were almost finishing up. "You finally saying something honest." He said his tone softer than usual. You refused to look at him. Unfortunately, the warmth climbing up your neck betrayed you. Bakugou noticed instantly. "You're blushing." He teased.
"I'm holding surgical tools." You sternly said. "You're definitely blushing." He continued to teased.
"You're definitely losing blood." You simply said ignoring him. He laughed softly.
It caught you off guard. After the stitches were finished, you carefully adjusted the bandages around his torso. Your fingers brushed against his warm skin. Bakugou's gaze never left your face.
"You know," he said, voice quieter than usual, "I started coming here because I thought you were beautiful." You kept working, but he didn't continue.
"But?" You asked him as you gently wrapped the bandages. "But then you started yelling at me." He continued.
You gave him a questioned look. "That made it better?" You asked with a raised brow. He smirked. "Way better." He said tone low and sexy.
You rolled her eyes. Bakugou continued, "You treat everybody like they matter. Even when you're exhausted." This time his words were honest. You finally looked at him. His expression had lost all teasing. "You care too much," he said. Coming from him, it sounded strangely gentle. Your chest tightened unexpectedly.
Years of medical training had taught you how to stay composed. How to remain detached. How to keep emotions behind clean professionalism.
Bakugou crashed through every wall you built just by being relentlessly honest. "You flirt with every doctor?" You asked quietly. Bakugou smirked. "Tch. The question offends me doc. I only flirt with the terrifyingly pretty winged ones."
Despite yourself, you laughed. Bakugou stared for a second like he'd won something important.
The room suddenly felt smaller.
You stepped back first and cleared your throat. "You need rest." You said as you composed yourself once again.
"I need your number." Bakugou stated matter of fact. Clearly not backing down. "You already have it—
"Personal number." Bakugou said cutting you off with his signature smirk. "That's inappropriate." You said a smile now adorned your lisp.
"You texted me last week asking if I changed my bandages." He said with a smug expression. "That was medically necessary—
"You used a smiley face." He said cutting you off once again. You froze and sighed. Bakugou looked unbearably smug. "...Give me your phone," you said. His eyes widened slightly before he handed it over. You typed your number into his contacts.
Bakugou stared at the screen. Then at you. Then back at the screen. "You finally fell for me?" he asked. You folded your arms. "You were bleeding heavily. Temporary lapse in judgment."
"And if you intentionally injure yourself just to see me again—"
"I won't," he interrupted. That surprised you. Bakugou leaned forward slightly, expression calmer than you ever seen it. "I'll just ask you out properly instead." You blinked. For once, there was no teasing in his voice.
The realization hit you harder than expected. Bakugou had been serious this entire time. Your wings shifted slightly behind you. Bakugou noticed immediately. "...What does that mean?" he asked.
You looked away. "They move when I'm nervous."
A slow smile spread across his face. "You nervous around me, doctor?" He said with a grin. "Don't ruin the moment." You muttered clearly flustered.
"Too late. I'm definitely framing this in my head forever." Bakugou said as he gently smiled at your
You could only sigh dramatically. But this time, you couldn't stop smiling either. Outside the examination room, half the nursing staff nearly collapsed from excitement after overhearing everything.
Inside the room, the Number Five Hero looked at Dr.(Y/N) like she was the brightest thing he'd ever seen.
And for the first time in a very long while...You let yourself look back the same way.
