– ☆ -- It was obvious Pearl would do anything for Rose. She loved her, she respected her, she was willing to die to defend her. And when the Homeworld gem charged, it was second nature to dash to her side and fight off the foe that dared to attack her leader.

While Pearl had lost her physical form many times protecting Rose, this was far more serious. She’d almost been shattered, the brute nearly took her life for the worthless cause of taking over the Earth. As Rose Quartz had said many times, the Earth was worth protecting, it had creatures that were unique and precious. 

When she regained consciousness afterwards, she was surprised to have lips pressed to her own as a form of greeting. Her eyes widened. This was everything she’d ever wanted, was this really happening? She enjoyed the moment while it lasted before her eyes fluttered open, cheeks flushed a rather deep shade of teal. “Rose?” The hushed whisper of her name was followed by tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. She’d almost been destroyed. But in that moment she was so happy she’d been able to come back.

– ☆ – When the clock read 9:43, Pearl knew she was in trouble. She had no reason to get home early, that wasn’t the problem. The problem was she was still stuck at the ballet studio with a little kid well after the class he was in ended. All of the other children had gone home when the lesson ended at five. But this boy’s parents hadn’t shown up after all this time, and the dance instructor was beyond worried.

She’d asked for his parents’ phone numbers. After finding out that he only lived with his mom, and after calling her cellphone and being sent to voicemail every time, she eventually gave up. This particular child was one who was very energetic, the whole day he’d been going on about, what she assumed to be, his favorite cartoon shows and how he’d drawn pictures for them and what fried foods were the best. Admittedly, after awhile she was starting to grow irritated. “Steven,” She addressed him, trying to stay calm, “are you sure your mother’s on her way? I want you to get home safely, and it’s getting very late.” At the sound of the bell chiming she turned to the door hopefully, had the boy’s mother finally com?

“Wait! You… really do want to?” Amethyst cracked a smile as she wrapped her arms around Pearl, embracing her in a hug. She placed her head against the taller’s chest and grabbed one of her hands. “Of course I’m willing to. I want a romantic relationship with you. Heck, I know I’m not perfect, but…” A shrug of her shoulders as she let out a contented sigh. “You’re important to me too, P.”

– ☆ – Pearl let out an incoherent noise of embarrassment as Amethyst told her she was important. A teal tint returned to her cheeks and she couldn’t help but to smile down at her. Pearl’s arms wrapped around the younger gem’s waist, lifting her up into her arms, hugging her close. “We might have to keep this from Garnet for awhile... Can you do that?” She asked, resting her hand on the back of Amethyst’s head.

Eyeball scoffed but the Pearl seemed to be serious and she squinted at her. She asked, “Really?” She knew these gems were weird but a pearl with no owner and being proud of the fact? That was possibly the weirdest part. “You don’t mind?” Most pearls Eyeball had seen seemed only to be there to take orders. “What do you do with yourself?”

– ☆ – “Of course I don’t mind. I chose to live my life this way.” Being treated like dirt wasn’t something I wanted to spend my life doing.” She was trying her hard not to shout, but this Ruby was testing her patience. Was it really so surprising that she didn’t belong to anyone?.... Well, she guessed for a Homeworld gem it would be. Placing her hands on her hips, she scowled down at the other gem, glaring daggers as the Ruby continued to question her.
