kay but due to Dustin’s dad living in a different city most of the time and his mom being basically addicted to daytime TV and bingo nights, Dustin’s the one managing the household, including paying bills and the mortgage. he keeps check on the garbage collection, he makes sure to call someone or fix broken stuff himself, he replaces whatever needs replacing, he fixes his own meals most days. due to that, he not only has grown to be outstandingly independent at age fourteen, he’s also really, really good at forging his mom’s signature.

NYU, MIT           the goddamned University of Indianapolis if he had to, but something robotic had to happen in his future. “and I already KNOW how mortgages work. the bank almost foreclosed our house twice, ‘cause mom forgot to mail the check.” a boy at fourteen probably shouldn’t know yet. but with an ABSENT father and a scatterbrained mother, he had little choice. “you ever thought about becoming a motivational coach?” again, dripping SARCASM.

Well, that’s almost too E A S Y a question, “School.” The ache to soak up knowledge from every surface of this E A R T H is staggering, “Do you have a favorite class in school?”

       well, Indiana isn’t much of a place for tropical breezes, but SCORCHING HEAT they could do. she’d learn to hate that too. everyone does eventually. and she’d learn how BLISSFULL it feels to sit in front of a working AC. two more fries disappear, the reply to his question leaving him mildly surprised for a moment, until he figures she, AGAIN, doesn’t know better. school. sure. if you’re one of the popular kids.
