Pepper and Aion have one complicated relationship.
Being the sovereign of experience, Aion’s infinite existence was bound to grow old at some point. They began to create worlds of their choice, some lighthearted and some wrenching, seeing just how far each could last and what directions it could take. If the outcome gets old or isn’t satisfying enough, a new world takes its place. A simple, silly experiment in their mind. Til that got old too.
It wasn’t until one night that changed the direction of these experiments. They could change the entire world at will without much effort, but what about personally influencing the life within it?
So they sought out to find somewhere to start, somewhere they could intervene without trouble; A demolished home, a little girl beside it, pleading for help. Aion took the effort of looking more “human”, and once they approached, they knew the smell of charred wood well. The girl was inconsolable, emphasizing it was “her stupid fault” while clutching the pocket of a shirt that was much too big. With her display, he was softened by how much she experienced so quickly. With the little sympathy they held, Aion saw this as the perfect first case.
They swore to take her under their care if she made a little deal: just stay put. She doesn’t leave the town they were in, and they would provide her with all the necessary care. A home, food, materialistic items, you name it. She was only eight, so weighing pros and cons was not on her list. She wanted help, and after a bit of tired crying, went with Aion into the woods. The longer she stayed under their fluctuating care, they started calling her Pepper instead of her original name, Madeline. Not long after the move, different features began to appear on Pep. First it was a longer tail, then wings, then the wings on her face; all she did not attribute to being Aion’s doing. They merely want to make her look more like they do; for it would be the “biggest honor” to be made in their image.
Pep remains uncertain of them for years til she realizes just how big of a role they play in being responsible for her losing herself before and during all of the changes, all of the paranoia induced due to how they raised her, and the most painful “pure form” being her harpy form. Aion’s furious she is taking their help as a curse instead of a gift, but when experience fights fate, she takes him by surprise.
