Hey y'all!

I may or may not eventually end up rewriting this, but that's a problem for future me.

I want to use this blog as a place to just rant and rave about random art/culture/media stuff. It's meant for me predominantly to give myself a chance to pretend to be a writer and document my thoughts as I discover new art. That can mean fully fledged articles, or simply "I experienced a thing, here's how I feel about it in one sentence."

I'll post about whatever the hell I want, in whichever way I want, and as rarely or often as I want. The only thing I can promise is that almost all posts will be peculiar and/or obtuse in one way or another.

A minor grump of mine (that I hold against no one because the term is fun to say and I Get It) is that Lacenet is NOT doomed yuri!!! They are the OPPOSITE of doomed yuri in canon!! Doomed yuri is a tragedy, a relationship that is going to fail and fall apart for one reason or another. Doomed Yuri is when you know Orpheus will turn around. That's just how the story is going to go.

Lace tried REALLY HARD to make Lacenet doomed yuri, with her dramatic combo sacrifice/matricide and she failed because Hornet's a stubborn bitch that dove below the void's surface and literally pulled her back from the depths of nothing!!! Lace lived!! They both lived!! They are free!!

Lacenet is profoundly undoomed yuri, against all odds. It feels like it should've been doomed. But it wasn't. Hornet doesn't share Orpheus' skill issue. She walked straight through hell, and with a bit of help from her siblings, she kept her eyes forward. And both of them came out the other side. Alive. Unbound. Together. Sitting next to each other by the shores of the void. Undoomed and free.

I consider the spectacle of professional sports a fringe form of art. They provide tales of wonder like any other form of media. The human condition, the will to engage in play, the ups and downs are in-built. As Counter-Strike 2 analyst Janko "YNk" Paunović once said, "sports are the best form of reality TV." (Expect a post on CS2 in the future.)

My current athletic obsession is MLB. In the most routine-obsessed sport in the world, in a league that has operated for well over a century, unicorns are still popping up. Here's a brief introduction to my favorite baseball player, Shohei Ohtani. You will quickly see why he's so universally loved.

Give It One by Maynard Ferguson has possibly the best ending in any jazz song. It builds up tension leading up to the finale and then somehow manages to release it in a really satisfying manner. That isn't supposed to work, but it does in this case.

Yes a dozen times over, and not just English. Japanese fusion and Romanian rap go hard. Classical compositions can include lovely vocals in Romance languages that aren't really meant to be understood. Some Russian hardbass still works surprisingly well despite the genre's waning position in modern music culture.

(After some very quick research,) I selected Bengali because...

1. it'd give me access to a massive new cultural playground loosely shared by over 250 million speakers globally (compared to, for example, around 400 million native English speakers)

and 2. it seems to be the language closest to Sanskrit out of the ones listed in the poll, and I'd like to read some of the old theological texts that helped form Dharmic belief systems like Hinduism and Buddhism, in their original Sanskrit form. The starting point of being fluent in Bengali would make the effort required to decipher Sanskrit reasonable.

My second option would be Hindi, the most commonly spoken language in South Asia, at around 600 million speakers.

Spanish hits similar numbers, but I'm assuming a large portion of the Spanish art worth knowing about is also available in English.

Mandarin Chinese is swiftly closing in on one billion native speakers, but I'm worried that censorship carried out by the CCP would severely limit the scope of availability for any novel or contrarian art produced in the language.

A restaurant named You're Not Supposed To Be Here, where the whole point is that the vibes are unnerving. The lighting is weird, the whole place has a faint scent that's not a bad smell, but it's certainly not food smell and you can't quite identify what the hell it is. The music is weirdly janky and you can't quite tell what's wrong with it, the vocals aren't exactly garbled but sung in a language you swear you've never heard anywhere and couldn't name if you tried. Only hiring staff who have anxiety and they're 100% permitted to show how much your presence here stresses them out.
