when belle was still a baby, her mother passed away due to an unknown illness. her father didnât even know she was sick until she had fainted, and by the time she had gone to the hospital, it was too late. her mother had always been frail, but not sickly, so the suddenness of everything changed her father and how he saw the world. he feared belle was going to get sick like her mother and that she was just as frail as her. to protect her, he kept her close, didnât let her stray too far, and did his best to keep her mother alive in his stories about her.
lucky for him, belle was more into stories than she was people. she still remember her first book she was ever able to read on her own. there was something about being able to just leave the world behind and go to a new one that was so satisfying to her. she found it way more exciting than sports or playing on the jungle gym at school and for that she was teased by her peers.
her preference to read over play games wasnât the only reason she was bullied. her father was an inventor and a very promising one.he was trying to make life on corona easier for everyone and he had big ideas, but they tended to go wrong more than right. so a lot of people on the island thought he was insane, therefore belle had to be insane as well for defending him so proudly.
lucky for her, she had her sanctuary. nose stuck in a book was her favorite place to hide away from the world and get lost in a new one. the owner knew her well enough and because of her frequent places she had a special spot just for her in the back, set up with pillows and blankets. it was a small fort that belle sneak into constantly to read and forget her worries. she had to be woken up a lot by the owner on especially hard days when she would end up sleeping in the little hideaway while reading.
as she grew older and the bullying lessened, she tried to be a bit more outgoing. it was hard because everyone seemed to know each other and just...had history that belle did not. so she was constantly at odds with herself, torn between trying to make friends and isolate herself forever. and that followed her into college. she didnât go out to any parties by choice and if she happened to be dragged along somewhere she just sat in the corner with her book and waited until she could go home. she majored in creative writing and english literature and was determined to write her own stories when she graduated college.
after she graduated she was practically given nose stuck in a book. when the original owner wished to retire he wanted no one but belle to take over because he knew she would preserve its look and truly care for the place. she declined at first, her dreams of leaving the island for somewhere as magical as the settings in her books so she could write her own was all she had on her mind. but then her father started growing ill and his brain was not where it used to be and belle knew she needed to stay. so she accepted the owners offer and has been its owner since.
she has owned nose stuck in a book for years and has loved every second of it. while she isnât happy to be stuck on the island she does try to make the most of it with the store. changing the scenery, but still letting it keep its rustic design by not adding too much technology. being able to choose which books were brought into the spotlight and what books needed some shelf time was nice.
when it comes to her own words, she has yet to write anything solid, but she has piles and piles of handwritten drafts. she never got the hang of typing everything out and chooses to fill blank notebooks with her words and ideas.
meeting people who werenât born on the island through her bookstore was nice. she felt like she had a fresh start with some of these people and seeing that there were others who cared for books like she did made her feel good. she sees people sheâs known her entire life enter her store too and she tries to be civil, make a joke with them, but she just isnât the best at holding conversation without getting into it about a book.
she tries her best to stay away from gossip. she knows how harmful it can be and she would rather be far, far, away from it than know what was going on in the dating pool.
she doesnât really hold her tongue ever. it is partially due to her lack of social skills and partially because she thinks the truth is far more important than trying to impress others.
she is actually a rather excellent cook. she read a lot of cookbooks during her more restless nights and now she cooks for her and her father every night.
she always has her comfort book on her. that is romeo and juliet. she can recite the entire thing without looking at a single page, but she still likes to have the copy at hand just in case she needs to escape a situation.
when she was little she was a pretty hardcore twilight fan. she will still read the books over every now and then when she is bored enough.
she loves musical theater and does the absolute most to get screenplays into the shop. some days she will have her own personal musical playlist playing in the background.
she is a virgo, but who is surprised. her birthday is september 13th.
she can speak fluent french. her mother was french so she learned how to speak it to honor her.
she grows more and more restless every day. she knows her father needs her, but she wants to see the world and experience new things. she feels she has read every book she could read about scenery and longs for something new.
