I have figured out why this whole “Hyuna/E’Dawn” thing seems a lot less dramatic on my timeline than some people who are saying they are seeing a lot of people react.
My timeline is filled with a lot of memes and jokes and “are we even really surprised?” It’s a lot of people being concerned for the support they’ll lose, but no hate for the situation at all.
I was trying to figure out why there would be people who would be hateful and rude. And then it hit me…

Well, you see, our celebrities dating isn’t out of the norm. There aren’t bans on celebrities dating when they’re in the spotlight here. Hell, a lot of the Disney relationships were orchestrated even. As a teenager, I had to have my heart broken because Joe Jonas dated Demi Lovato. As an adult, western musicians i follow are having babies and getting married and dating each other and that’s not considered weird to me.
We have to normalize the idea of Korean Idols dating. It’s harmful to fans and idols alike to keep them in this harmful bubble that they are fan’s property. Your oppas/hyungs and unnis/noonas are allowed to date whoever they want.
It’s your responsibility as a fan to be happy for them and support them no matter what.
