my qpp qiutam hcs are mostly saved for comics but i always imagine that tamarack associates love with like, sappy fairytale stuff with her being whisked away by a beautiful person on a white horse and being called a princess or smth.......... and then discovers she loves qiu, but does not associate These Things with them at all. qiu acts all coy when they have a crush, but they are really casual with tamarack. that degree of casual where they allow themselves to do things they might not do in front of other people. some think that they might not care about their image in front of tamarack At All, and....... yeah they dont. they can relax! i imagine they flip out their shit everytime they think of each other bc they cannot grasp what are their feelings toward each other are. they dislike each other they need each other to change they want to be happy together and cant stand each other but realize they cant imagine not having each other side by side.

lowkey this is how i feel sometimes about tam and qiu

people criticizing tamarack for ignoring social cues and generally being put off by her behavior, not realizing that they are interacting with a heavily neglected child who was thrown in an environment that she never had a chance to properly learn! you think she would want to stay in the town where every interaction just seems to remind her how out of place she is? she tries to play it off and be as independent as she can - but when that knowledge finally catches up to her, of course she would be reduced to her 14 year old meek self. in the same way, people praising qiu for being such a good kid and ultimately just adding to the pile of expectations thrust upon him. because 10 year olds are usually not that perceptive and accommodating and don't take the effort to spell out their name to everyone they encounter. their burned out 14 year old self is a natural result of everything they are in step 1. if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? it's easier to be in the town where there are kids to play with and problems to be solved.

You know, in the same way that the boys in OLBA all needed patience in their romance, someone willing to wait with them while they figured out their shit, Qiu and Tamarack need unconditional acceptance. Tamarack needs a partner who loves her as she is, doesn't try to change her, and thinks that she is worth the risk of loving. Qiu needs someone who will tell them that they are worth the effort, even if they can't be everything, give everything, 100% of the time. Like, agh! I love when people write with intention. I love themes.
