The 1969 Easter Mass Incident

Content Warnings: Religion, food, symbolic cannibalism, symbolic gore, penis mention, Blasphemy, SO MUCH BLASPHEMY, weapons, war mention.  Mind the warnings and your health always comes first. Its a HILARIOUS story, I promise.

As always, all the names have been changed to protect people’s identities.  This is a long one, so Press J now if you want to skip it.

When my dad was a young man and still a practicing catholic, he participated in a small church communion that nearly got him and six other people excommunicated.

Father Patrick ran a small church outside of California Polytechnical and tended to be… rather more liberal in his interpretations of scripture than most of the church was, which made him something of a hit with the local students and liberally-inclined populace.  Pat went to all manner of civil demonstrations, condemned the shit out of the vietnam war and the politics that lead to it and so on.  In January of 1969 a series of incidents lead him to start exploring “nontraditional” means of holding Mass as a means of reaching out to his community and exploring his own faith, which ultimately culminated in the 1969 Easter Mass Incident.

For those of you who weren’t raised catholic, Communion is this ritual where you become one with Jesus by eating a really horrible bland wafer cookie and taking a shot of wine (called hosts), which then *literally* become the flesh and blood of jesus in your mouth, allowing him to become one with you.  It’s big McFucking deal, and you have the opportunity to take communion at every mass.  All this had to be explained to me second-hand because after this and Dad’s 51 days in the army, Dad decided he wouldn’t inflict religion on any children he might have in the future.

“We’re getting to that.”  He waved.

hi everyone please look at this immortal!Twilight raritwi comic idea i had thank you

- - - -  so the comic starts with Rarity on her couch being dramatic, while unicorn Twilight is looking at her half amused. “What will you do when I’m being theatric?” Rarity asks, to which Twilight playfully replies, “I’ll love you just the same.” We move on now to the next panel, this beautiful wedding, where Rarity and alicorn Twi are getting married, very emotional and happy, foreheads pressed together. “What will you do in sickness and in health?” Rarity asks, tears in her eyes, and Twilight tearfully grins, “I’ll love you just the same.” We move on to the next now, a very different tableau of Rarity at her sewing machine, mascara-filled tears running down her cheeks, while Twilight hovers by, apologetic at what seems to be a terrible fight. “What will you do when we’ve had an awful fight?” Rarity quietly whispers, to which Twilight replies, as she always has, “I’ll love you just the same.” The next panel we find an upset, very visibly older Rarity, even more so when compared to her beautiful young-looking wife, the latter watching as her wife puts on makeup in front of a mirror. “What will you do when I no longer look as I once did?” Rarity laments, and Twilight laughs and says, “I’ll love you just the same” Reaching the end now, you see, as we move on to an elderly Rarity lying in bed, sick and ready to go, still sporting a loving smile on her face as she comforts the teary alicorn nuzzling her. “What will you do,” Rarity whispers, “when I love you too much?” to which Twilight brokenly replies her undying promise of, “I’ll love you just the same.” And so we move on to the last panel. Of Twilight in a big, empty room, looking out a window and towards the heavens above. And for the first time, she’s the one with a question. “What will you do,” she asks, “when it’s time to move on?” And so we move away from Twilight, from this quiet moment, and pan towards a  a jewelry box where we see two silver wedding bands and inside of Twilight’s we see an inscription in Rarity’s calligraphy. “I’ll love you just the same.”

There exists a world in which, in the darkest moment of her life, trapped in a prison of her own making, Twilight Sparkle’s nightmare ended when her love for Rarity for a moment burned brighter than her miserable self-hate. A world where this was enough to free her mind, to use a necklace one last time, in time to fix what could still be fixed. But that is not this story. This is not that time. So, separated in space and time by a rescue that came far too late, Rarity and Twilight grapple with the fact that just because someone is dead doesn’t mean they’re gone. --- Or: alternate ending to my raritwi multichapter 'The Enchanted Library' where Twilight's liberation takes much, much longer than a unicorn's lifespan.

I was catching up on some terribly sad TEL thingies and wanted to do something telverse. But also had to be *HAPPY*. And that inspired me to work on this. I think I might call it good enough.
