Being with these gentle giants today and hearing about their stories was the highlight of my trip! Feeling lucky to have spent a full day learning about wildlife in South East Asia and the illegal trade & trafficking that takes place. Wildlife Alliance is an amazing organisation. Thank you so much for the best day ever.
Today was eye opening and I learned so much about Cambodia's history. This photo here is a huge unit displaying the actual skulls of victims (babies are in there too). All of the skulls are organised by age. This was shown at the memorial in the killing fields that we visited. We literally were shown and walked around the pits of where these poor people were mass murdered. It was so sad :-( seeing so many skulls in this cabinet, and walking around the huge craters of where these people were murdered for no reason at all was eye opening, I still can't believe what I saw 😡 The most real & difficult moments of this tour was walking past a huge tree, called the "magic tree".. where the soldiers of the Kymer Rouge (the extremist party who conducted all of this) hung a speaker and blasted music throughout the field, to drown out the noises of those suffering. As we walked past the pits / graves they played the music that they played and it was chilling. I can't believe I wasn't taught about this, how could this happened after the Holocaust? Maybe we really don't learn from history. After all, today's media clippings of the war in Syria will probably be placed behind a museum glass in years to come, and that's happening right now! I don't understand how some people have such disregard for human life. I hope we someday can learn from history. (at Killing Fields and Genocide Museum, Phnom Penh, Cambodia)
