Finally found a good reason to visit the South Side of Chicago. Pray for me. And for those obsessed  as me & like a virtual tour, feel free to plug in some of those addresses on the left (about 15% of my entire Chicago Art Deco Map I created).

Took this pic of a King Vulture at the Los Angeles zoo last week. How is this Art Deco? HELLO, MAYAN REVIVAL, ANYONE?!
hill theatre -new jersey 1938
It's still there but they removed the marquee. That's like removing the beak from a bird. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38714066@N00/8001016296/in/photolist-dc2ioQ-dc2ihJ-8ai9UV
Perfection!

Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California (which is a part of the City of Los Angeles for those who might be from out of town). The Pantages is Los Angeles’ finest Art Deco interior.
Originally the Schroeder Hotel (now the Milwaukee Hilton City Center). The top picture is one of my favorite Art Deco images ever. Too bad you (in my best Chris Traeger voice & hand-gesture) literally need binoculars to see it. I bet most Milwaukeeans don’t even know it’s up there. Click on any of them to see them in their embiggened glory.

Illinois Building, Springfield, Illinois by dp.moore
Gorgeous Deco brass building entrance. The building is fifteen stories and dates to 1930.

Picture I took in Rosehill Cemetery, Illinois in April of 2012.
Farris Apartments, Reno, Nevada from Roadside Architecture
Unique “wedding cake" design feature but I wonder if this is even standing anymore. Looks in bad shape.
Another angle:
From Roadside:
The Farris Motel, now the Farris Apartments, was built in 1949. The office features a wedding cake style canopy over the entrance.
It is indeed still standing (at least it was in September 2012 when I purposely paid it a visit after Burning Man:Â http://artdecodude.tumblr.com/post/54583039988/farris-apartments-in-reno-nevada-actually-more

Rest In Peace, Big Al, you were always THE drummer for DEVO. On a related note: fuck cancer.
When the Richfield Building was torn down in 1968, they saved one set of the bronze elevator doors and put them next to the new building in the back as an outdoor art thing. Sad that 99% of the folks that see it have no idea what it is. There is no signage to tell anyone anything (maybe to protect it). It is pretty much agreed among Los Angeles folks that if the Richfield Building were still standing, it would be a tough decision to decide LA’s best Art Deco building, between it and the Eastern Columbia Building and the Pantages Theater.
Exterior light fixture from the Casino on Santa Catalina Island in California.
Detail of plaster frieze on the Queen Mary. Permanently moored in Long Beach, California. This is a two foot section out of a roughly 20 foot long frieze.
