In the world we live in today, no one saw it coming. She stands in her living room thinking of her next move. Unable to live the life she once had. Her work and position in the world system is uncertain, but the fear of the unknown doesn’t grip her.
Though she stands there naked and EXPOSED, she decides to cloak herself with HOPE. The future may be unknown to her but the ways she sees it, it can only greet her with the best of possibilities.

“The Pin-Up Girl”
I really enjoyed working on this piece, I love the pop of color!
Mrs. Edwards | Artist: Tope David Luwoye Instagram: @pencil_x_paper Raindrops clattered against the sidewalk as we ran to beat the dark cloud hovering above us. But the more we ran, the heavier the rain fell. The downpour drenched our clothes and my wife’s hair went from neatly styled coils to wet, droopy springs. We ran further and a voice called out to us. “Hey! You guys wanna come under here until the rain stops?” We stopped and realized it was the man we’d passed by many times during our walks. My wife and I looked at each other. It was a sign. One of many that God had been showing us that day. We ran toward his carport and noticed a woman sitting next to him. His mom, Mrs. Edwards, a beautiful woman with intriguing stories to match. I was mesmerized by her wisdom and her beauty instantly. As she spoke, I wondered if she would let me take a picture of her as a reference for a portrait, and she happily agreed when I asked. Here’s a gift to you, Mrs. Edwards. I hope you like it. Thank you for being such a blessing to my wife and me.

Shango is the king of the Orisha and the Yoruba god of thunder. Armed with his mystical war axe, Oshe, he is one of the greatest Orisha warriors.I really enjoyed creating this piece for my client! What is your favorite Orisha?

She once felt she was a caged bird, biding her time to escape. But to where? As she gazed out her window, she realized the pandemic gave her clarity. With a stay order in place, “friends” began to reveal her worth to them in the form of silence, and with no access, her family couldn’t persuade her to be something she’s not. And ironically, the sting of being laid off was far less painful than expected. In fact, she was oddly relieved. With no one to dictate her life, she allowed herself to be EXPOSED to her new normal. Perhaps she isn’t caged at all but shielded in a safe place once prayed for but long forgotten.
