Unrealistic that all these magic reveal merthur au’s out there have Merlin remembering enough of his life to be able to recap the entirety of the show to Arthur without leaving anything out all in one go.

magic reveal fanfic’s:

Merlin: my magic’s for you arthur. Its only for you. *proceeds to give chronological order of events starting at ep1 all the way up to the reveal*

10x funnier and more likely:

Merlin: *months or years after the reveal* so anyway, there I was, tied to a tree, and a serkhet stings me, right?

merlin au where arthur giving merlin his mother’s sigil is like a marriage proposal and sharing his clothes with him, dining privately with him, doing all of these things are considered intimate so like the nobles in and out of the kingdom think that theyre married

on the other hand the magical community come near arthur and he REEKS of merlin’s magic, like it’s everywhere and so intimately woven into arthur’s aura that their like “omg he married merlin/emrys” so they also think that the two are married

and merlin and arthur are happily oblivious to all of this

until of course the druids and other magical ppl and nobles and kings and the whole jazz start making the long long journey to come to camelot and personally congratulate on the marriage

and merlin and arthur are standing there, side by side, merlin wearing ygraine’s sigil and arthur drenched in merlin’s magic like “literally why the fuck would you think that”

but then they dont know how to like explain all of that so theyre just like “well thats a thing now” and yeah

You know how Arthur must do all of these quests and tasks ALONE, to prove himself worthy of ruling Camelot? And one way or another Merlin is always there to help him. After a while Arthur realizes that he isn’t worthy of ruling Camelot alone. He’s only worthy (and capable) with Merlin by his side.

And he’s okay with that because he doesn’t want it any other way.

bbc merlin writers trying so hard fighting for their life not to say the word soulmate because if they did the romantic subtext between merlin and arthur would stop being a subtext will always be soooo funny to me. they were constantly making the characters say shit like “he is my destiny” “i was born to be at arthur’s side” “merlin needs to be with arthur forever or camelot will burn down” “if you two are ever apart from each other arthur is going to explode into a million little pieces” like okay bro

The way Arthur always grabs and yanks Merlin behind him or out of danger. He acts like he doesn’t care but he cares so damn much. It’s always the first thing he does when facing a threat.
