sometimes the ways conversion blogs discuss ethnically Jewish features is kinda uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
(gentiles donât touch)
Whoever made the original post in this line There were so mannnny better ways to make this point, seriously. Donât perpetuate antisemitism to prove converts and ethnic Jews who donât âlook Jewishâ can experience antisemitism.
But also, Please be careful with your response. Because it ignores ethnic Jewish converts and is worded a little anti-convertish
We really need to keep in mind the anti-convert sentiment in the community, the complete disadvantage converts are at and how this can contribute to it when making posts like this
This is not at all worded in an anti-convert way. Those of us who have no Jewish ethnic background (or whose Jewish ancestors are many generationsâ removed) need to be especially mindful about perpetuating antisemitism and when itâs as blatant and gross as the OP, we donât need to be treated with kid gloves. If @surprisedentistry had said âthis is why I donât trust convertsâ or âconverts blogs are always so bad at this,â that would be one thing, but she didnât. Not all posts about antisemitism need to come with a paragraph of disclaimers in order to be valid.
Okay you know what thatâs valid. I retract my statement
I just didnât want to throw non ethnic converts as an ethnic Jewish convert myself under the bus.
I apologize.
Yeah I saw this⌠the person who wrote that post lives in Poland and thatâs probably an environment that got some wires crossed for them. Whether that makes it better or worse is gonna depend on how you look at it, but I think itâs relevant context in the sense of understanding that this definitely isnât the norm for conversion students or conversion blogs.
Okay I think I was giving them too much benefit of the doubt, because theyâve got some other pretty bad takes. On the one hand I do understand theyâve been raised in a certain environment and they have things to unlearn but on the other hand, conversion is a really big deal and theyâve said some pretty questionable things.

to highlight, in case you didnât read that whole thing:
Look, I fully support the goal of rebuilding the Jewish community in Krakow. I think itâs wonderful and important that people are doing that. But the line about âyour traumaâ just really rubs me the wrong way. If youâre joining the Jewish people, it becomes your trauma too.
