Sometimes it's good to be evil. Just like in a video game: of course you are the shining beacon of light in the darkness, the last hope of the suffering people, a true paragon of virtue; you are famed throughout the realm and wherever you go, tales of your good deeds and heroic victories over evil demonspawn have preceeded you... but nobody will mind if you steal from that powerful wizard, locked up in that tower; sure, you know you're not supposed to, what with all that paragon business but how else are you supposed to get the freakin' Amulet of Regeneration?
Sometimes it's good to indulge. I know that you know that we all know how absolutely, miraculously heart warming and soul mending that midnight slice of cheese cake can be. But don't eat to much, or you'll be up all night with a stomach ache; better not even have your own cheese cake and just have a tiny sliver of someone elses: you won't have to worry about your weight, it won't keep you up all night, it won't be your problem if the leftovers go bad and anyway the apple's always greener and such... Sometimes it's also good to reflect on these evil indulgences... How does the wizard feel about my stealing his amulet and... (yes, you guessed right - it was indeed the wizards cake as well) his cheese cake? How does the cheese cake feel about being noshed on secretly at night? Consider all the consequences but don't ponder or dwell on it for too long, because after all the game was designed, so you would take that amulet - only half as fun facing the evil of all evils day by day without it.
