Kain has only tried ale a few times. To this day he insists that it is entirely too bitter for his liking. He prefers rum, or sometimes whiskey

When Kain was a child before his father died, Kain had found a stray puppy in the alley way behind his house. It was sickly and weak. He began sneaking it bits of his meals, and he'd leave a bowl of water by the back door. For two years he fed and watered that dog well into it's adulthood. The day he received the news of his fathers death. Kain sat weeping with that dog in his arms. Holding onto him tight until Mrs. Ferrel came to take him to the castle. While he lived in the castle he'd sneak out to see the dog and feed him every day, and the dog would go with he and Rosa when they went to visit their fathers' graves. The day before he joined the dragoons the dog didn't show up to be fed, later that day Kain visited his father's grave to find the dog lying on the grave.

Stew

Kain can no longer stand to eat stew. It was  all he knew how to cook when he went on top of Mount Ordeals. For seventeen years it was almost all he had, except occasionally plain roasted meat he had hunted down. He'll eat it if he's a guest in a stranger's house, but aside from that the cooks in Baron castle know not to offer him stew.

I sorta did that in reverse order; played the DS FFIV before the Duodecim one, but boy did Duodecim totally make me appreciate Kain a hell of a lot more than I already did before it!

((Yeah I'm really surprised I never get aholt of 4 sooner. I loved Kain in both games and while I didn't get to finish after years, I really loved how he overcame his past and found his way back to the light.))
